DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Hi all, pippy_oak here, posting under my brand new user name. Hopefully, Richard will pin this thread, as it seems a nice tidy place to pose specific questions about a book (Is it a 1st edition, what's it worth, where to find it etc. etc.) Don't just come here with a question. If you think you have the answer, then let's hear it.

Or we could just mooch around and learn a few things.

Cheers

Paul

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Well, one of the first two. It had them when I first checked it.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

I'm sure this has been asked before, so please forgive me bothering you again.

When a book states: First published in United States 2001: First published in Great Britian 2001 (or UK, can't remember which)is this a First Edition listed as First Great Britain edition?

Hope that wasn't too garbled. It was a Patricia Cornwell but can't remember the title.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

I think 'First UK' would be correct.

Cornwell was published by Scribners in the U.S. and, initially, by Macdonald, then Little Brown in the UK.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Thanks Steve. So would the fact that it had first been published in USA devalue it?

Is it worth more than a couple of quid anyway?

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Well, it depends which one.

Postmortem published by Scribners might get you £1,000 for a nice signed copy.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

The UK one to watch out for is 'All That Remains' as it was published here before the U.S.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Just stumbled across a curiosity.

"Stick it up Your Punter" by Chippindale & Horrie.

ISBN 0671017829

It's the story of The Sun Newspaper(and there are no pictures in it,...and quite small writing).

It had been kicking round in my stock room (garage) for months. I assumed it was a penny book, and nearly binned it, but how wrong can you be?

I've listed it elsewhere at £33, which is the lowest anywhere, and far more than it's worth.

Any comments?

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Probably Sun readers thinking it's an anthology of retro page 3 girls.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

It would seem that either Beverley Nichols is unpopular this week or no-one wants to pay less for a jacketed first than for an unjacketed second impression.

Ah, well. Maybe I'll give it another try but at a peanuts start price.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Sad. 😞 You could cheer yourself up by starting a cricket tie collection. 😄

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

I have a collection of ties which I'd be delighted to find a buyer for.

They all have club, company or organisation badges on them. All sorts in there; golf clubs, nuclear power station staff, U.N.E.S.C.O. conferences, promotions.

Oh, and cricket clubs ties.

DO YOU HAVE A BOOK QUESTION?

Oh, Wow! - I hadn't checked. That type is very popular and very expensive to buy, new.

I see the sad Maths book has a bid as well.
