Second chance email not working

Hi everyone and thanks for reading.

I placed a bid in an auction, was outbid and then received a "second chance offer" email with all the security checks and all that.

Problem is there is no possible way to accept that offer, no matter where I look.

Within the first 24 hours (offer was received yesterday 8:00) I tried to click in the bit of text in the email that says "buy it now" by the offered price (see image attached) but it did not work.

I opened the email on my phone, in the outlook app in my laptop, in my browser... nothing.

I went through ebay and whenever clicking on the ad I would just see "You didn't win this auction. The seller has relisted this item or one like this."

I contacted the seller and they told me to click in the "Buy it now" link in the email, but as said thatdid not work.

Now the 24h period has ended and the item is again on auction...

What can I do? Why are NONE of the email links working? They all take me to rover.ebay.com/.../.../... and that never loads.

rover.ebay was an infamous tracking site that was often blocked by ISP's, browsers, adblockers, and individual users. It was part of ebay, but they supposedly stopped using it several years ago because it didn't comply with privacy requirements.

Maybe they have reintroduced it, of one of their stupid software developers has restored old links to it that no longer work?

Thanks for your reply. I guess they reintroduced it, literally all links in the email led to URLs starting with rover.ebay.

Originally I thought it may have been some sort of scam, to be honest, the whole HTML design of the emial looked dodgy to me, but then I also got notified in the messages in ebay and all that...

Thing is I seem to have lost now my right to buy it for the second chance offer price. I have contacted the seller, but it seems the item being again offered in auction means that I've lost my chance. I hope seller understands and replies with a similar offer...

Just wondering - if you go to My eBay -> Bids and Offers page does it show up there at all?

If the seller has already relisted the item via a new auction then the Second Chance Offer link you were given in the previous auction won't do anything, as the original listing will be obsolete now.  Your best chances of securing the item would be to wait until the second auction for the same item is about to end, then submit a really high bid as close to the end of the auction as possible.

If the page subsequently updates to confirm that you won the auction you will then be able to make payment for the item without having to use any silly links; however, one thing that may well be worth bearing in mind is that on occasion the page doesn't display as it ought to do when you win an item.  I won two auctions recently and the first one displayed the blue "Pay Now" button, which, after I clicked on it, took me to the Checkout page, where I was able to make payment without any aggravation, whereas the second auction that I won didn't display a "Pay Now" button.  After much searching I finally noticed a small red dot on the Basket icon with a white number 1 in it, located in the top right hand corner of the My eBay page - when I clicked on the Basket icon (something that I never bother to use) it took me to the necessary page that I needed to be on in order to pay the seller for the item.  If you do win the item the second time (or if you win any other auction, for that matter) but cannot see the "Pay Now" button, then try clicking on the Basket icon in the top right hand corner of your My eBay page to see if that takes you to the Checkout page to pay for the item that you just won.
