Messages are now verging inthe impossible to answer

Here we go again! More unnecessary tinkering by ebay - this time to make messages virtually impossible to reply to.

Why the blazes can't they leave things alone? what was wrong with the previous layout? Oh don't tell me - it was far too easy and sensible. Ebay can't possibly allow that!

What a total shambles it now is.

To err is human, but to really make a complete hash of things you need ebay  😠

Messages are now verging inthe impossible to answer

Hi - I totally agree, I cannot understand this new messaging system at all, incoming and outgoing all together, I don't know how to reply, or to send photos and it is hard to read the little column full of coloured spots.  If they had given us some information about how to use it, that would be helpful.  I have been on Ebay for 23 years and this is one of the worst changes I have seen, I dread having to read or reply to anyone now.  The previous system was fine, why isn't there a choice to go back to it?

Please use the feedback button on the lower right of the new layout and let them know what you think?

Hi - yes, thank you, I have already sent two messages to them via this link. Many thanks for taking the time to advise.

Why not indeed? Could it be that ebay know everyone would opt for the old and far better layout?

I've just realised they've done the same to the "ask seller a question" link as well.

I can only assume that whichever half witted *bleep* lands us with these alterations does not use ebay!

I  have told them what I think in no uncertain terms - and I intend to do so every time I am faced with the dreadful thing. I notice that I can't leave the stars unmarked - the least I can do is one star!

It must be hoped other users who don't like the layout use the opportunity to tell ebay what they think - whether it will make a difference is in the lap of the gods.

Spot on. If eBay left the option of switching back to the old version, I'm sure the vast majority of users would continue to do so. Unfortunately, it seems however much we complain, eBay never acknowledges the difficulties these 'updated' pages have created for many of us. Once a change is made, we're stuck with it.

It's obvious eBay has its own reasons for making changes, and it isn't for our benefit.... pretty much all of the 'new look' pages require a lot more fiddling around, extra clicking & scrolling & sliding etc. I'd been avoiding 'trying new messages', as I just couldn't face grappling with another badly designed update. I was hoping they might abandon the trial, but alas, it has caught up with us all now, hence the outcry! There are already at least six threads of complaints!

I think what upsets a lot of users, is that we are never given any good reason for these changes, and we are not consulted beforehand. If eBay were really concerned about our opinions, they could send out regular questionaires. If they'd asked, 'are you happy with the current messages layout, yes or no?' or, 'is there anything you would change about this page?' they would know what users want/don't want, and could make small improvements, as necessary. Instead, they just go ahead & redesign the lot, regardless of the upset & chaos this creates! 😠

It's 2024.  If a user interface is well designed, anyone who's used a computer previously will know how to use it.

The fact that you want information about it, yet you have no difficulty posting on this forum, shows that it's seriously badly designed.  Zero stars for you, ebay.  Yet again.  Why redesign something that wasn't great, but was adequate, when there's so much else on the site that's broken?

Oh come on, Ebay have made such an effort to mess the message system up, and everyone is condemning them!!

Shameful on you all.

You must realise to make such a pointless layout as the new one takes time, effort, imagination and care. Thank goodness they are not in charge of important things like colours in a Haribo sweet packet, then where would we be!

I don’t understand why they have given the smallest space on the page for the message, and the other 9/10ths of page to see history.

The clowns that have designed the new layout obviously have never tried sending via a mobile, or especially copying a previous message. When copying the highlight is blue and the message is blue! Now that takes skill!

Everytime I send a message I send feedback, but not once has anyone contacted me to explain why it’s such a shambles.

Well Ebay, you do monitor these pages, just take note of the comments.

Are you using a PC?

Look on the far left top, and you will see ''Messages'' Click the arrow, and that will show the Inbox.

From an Iphone for example, look at the top of the message page you will see ''All Messages'' Touch that and you will a list.

Sadly NOT simple as Inbox, but that should help!!!

Well done to the designers for complicating just a simple idea.

I totally agree!  I sent feedback for an article and then realised it was the wrong seller. So I tried to contact him to explain my error. I kept ending up with a partly-greyed-out window with 'send message' at the bottom but no way to enter a message. I spent well over an hour getting more and more exasperated before random clicking brought up a very small window at the bottom.  Then I was able to enter a message and send it. Talk about totally user-unfriendly.  Well done Ebay. You have to change something that works well, just for the sake of it. As a retired engineer I had to write procedures  that anyone with minimal competence could follow. Surely that criterion is still vital on a public platform?

If Haribo were to be designed by modern day IT programmers/developers (particularly younger ones), they would all be the same rounded shape and various shades of grey!

Messages have become too small and replying has a strange small space , they are trying to phase out messages by the look of it . Home page saved search suddenly gone too ,its a mess why do useless i.t. prats have to screw something that worked fine , I can truly say in the last ten years not one improvement has made anything better that it was before it was improved.
