I've been a member of eBay for 20 years now...
Over the years they have made many changes, some good and some not so good...
This one of completely revamping the messaging system is NOT GOOD !!! ... and it is now a challenge to read and reply to my important eBay messages 😞
Why on earth did eBay have ruin the reliable and easy to use messaging system which worked flawlessly since 1995 and was easy to use...
The new format/layout is now horrible and skimpy... Now you can't even see the whole of any message you receive or send, I have a big 19 inch laptop and eBay have now reduced the area where my messages display to that of an basic Smart Phone ! - I have all this space on my screen now WASTED ! whilst I struggle to read all my massages in a small window in the tiny bottom right corner ???
This is far from acceptable - I want the option to revert back to the old original messaging format PLEASE.
The old and original eBay messaging system was MILES BETTER in all respects and should have NEVER BEEN CHANGED.
Solved! Go to Solution.

I myself have to log into my Hotmail account to read ANY messages that I receive on the new eBay layout! I literally can't see ANYTHING in a message received now on eBay itself! CAN EBAY PLEASE REVERT TO THE "OLD" SYSTEM WHICH WAS SOOOO EASY TO USE!

Don't know if I am alone but unable to send a messagse to seller. Cannot type anything in the text box itself, cannot delete the the the text already there. Seller can send a message but cannot reply. Tried differnet browsers, one of which was on s different computer - none of those are working. The 'old' system worked perfectly, why change it? Evidently NOT tested before release.

Have you tried typing in that tiny little box at the bottom of the page? Where it says 'send message'.

The box second from bottom gives option to send a copy of message to yourself, icon on the right of that allows to enclose image file. The bottom box is greyed out, will only come live when image file enclosed, assume would come live if could actually type in text box. I did phone ebay with problem & they confirmed there may well be an issue.

If it was working normally, you should be able to click on the little grey box where it says 'send message', and that would make the box come live - so it sounds like there must be some sort of glitch.
As you said, the old system worked fine - there was no need to change it!

The seller is messaging back, but I cannot reply. The 'send message' only comes live when I enckose a graphic item, that is how I am replying at the moment, typing something in Word, doing a screen capture & sending that, seller refuses to accept that. Phoned ebay help, the person I spoke intimated there possibly is a known problem with the NEW messaging system.

Having same problem - ask a question and the BOT asks another question or offers a series of unreated choices
Does anyone really understands the toggle switch system?

Phoned ebay support couple of days ago. Apparently sending messages does NOT work in Edge or Firefox, only works in Google Chrome, I use Edge & Firefox. Might be something wrong with my computer was another excuse, provisional talk with my computer man was he doubted that, he will visit in a day or twos time to check thru'. Did find a way to actually send a message but forgot how I got there but it was NOT thru' the NEW messages box. Funny, I use Edge mostly - can place orders OK with no issues. From discussions on phone call, as some-one mentioned before, ebay more or less confirmed it has been designed exclusively for mobiles.

Sending messages works perfectly well in Firefox on a desktop, so I've no idea why you think otherwise.
Edge? I wouldn't know. Edge is an abomination, only fit for downloading Firefox, Chrome, Brave, etc!

I have the same issue, it’s impossible to read or respond….driving me mad…

There is definitely a problem at the moment using a mobile browser to read messages, but I am able to read and respond to messages using a desktop browser or the eBay app.
If you have member messages sent to your email address, try reading and respond there by replying directly to the emails.

I fully agree!!!
The box for typing the message in is far TOO SMALL for partially sighted members to use.
eBay PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE Re-instate the original message page system.
THANKS

New message system is absolute rubbish are they trying to put people off using eBay. Why mess with something that was working absolutely fine.

I don't know what it's like on the app, but on the desktop, although the newer system isn't perfect, it's a lot better than the old one, in that on the old one, if either party replied twice, the messaging got split into two separate threads. That was awful. I've never seen any other messaging system do anything so naff, so unfit for purpose. And I've seen a LOT of messaging systems.
