External Portable hard drives on computers not suitable for W10

Nobody mentions on posts for External Hard drives as to what system they will run on.

Iomega hard drive is a classic example, as it seems that tey will run on W8 or W7, but not on W10.

An external HDD is just that, a plug and play device and should`nt matter what operating system is used.

My desktop pc still runs windows 7, but my laptop is windows 10 and both my 1TB HDD`s work fine on both.

Are you sure the HDD is`nt faulty, because there are dodgy one`s out there, i`ve bought them myself in the past?

Do you have a friend with a laptop or p.c you can test them on as a sort of `second opinion`?

The external hard drives you mention knight-rider. Have you been using Iomega.
Same it seems with a Seagate Freeagent 500 gb, operated via mains plug, plus USB
for computer. Check their web site and it declares suitable for W8 and W7 but not for W10.
HD on main desktop computer, no problems, I have small external extensions and they work
perfectly well.

by papso 22. Cannot understand your response. For your guidance, I recently obtained a 500gb mains operated with usb connection, Seagate Freeagent. Yes, stupidly I should have checked, Seagate advise this Freeagent, can only operate on W7 or W8 but not on W10. Thus, I shall sell this out again, as pointless on W10
Yes, my thought, as I should have checked before, same goes for an Iomega 320 external mains operated.
Cannot be acceptable for W10.
