Bank charge back

Hello, I had a eBay case that the buyer said they never received the item this case was opened many months after the delivery. I showed proof of postage and never heard back from the buyer again. eBay closed the case. They have now asked their bank for a charge back and this was approved via PayPal. Does the eBay agreement not allow a buyer to do this as there are terms and conditions to the sale.

To clear up the obvious confusion:

Ebay didn't close the case in your favour as such.  Sellers can only win Item Not received cases if they have tracking proving delivery to the correct address.  Cases auto-close after 30 days of non-activity, with neither party winning or losing, and that is what happened here.

A buyer can open a chargeback on PayPal for Item Not Received for up to 180 days from purchase date.

To contest this, the seller needs proof of delivery.

Proof of postage is completely useless for such a claim as it does not prove delivery. Obviously. The seller must refund the buyer in full, and use the proof of postage receipt to lodge a claim for loss in transit with the carrier. That's what the proof of postage receipt is for.

A chargeback for an Unauthorised Account Use claim can be made for up to 13 months from purchase date.

The only way to contest  such a claim is with a proof of posting receipt

Proof of delivery is completely useless, as an account hacker or other unauthorised user will hardly have the item sent to the account holder's address.

As you lost the PayPal case when you uploaded proof of posting, and you say you definitely sent the item to the correct address, ie. the one supplied by PayPal on the payment confirmation email, the chargeback must have been for Item Not Received.  You had no proof of delivery as required for this type of chargeback, so you naturally lost the case.

Proof of delivery is required to have protection against a chargeback as suggested by *knight-rider*
