More profit for ebay - attributed ads

Do I understand right that starting from 24 June ebay will charge us every time we decide to use general ads whether someone clicks on the ad or not?

As a user of eBay Advertising, we want to make you aware of an update to general strategy campaigns on ebay.co.uk, ebay.fr, ebay.it, ebay.es and ebay.com.au. Starting from 24 June, items promoted with a general strategy will use the following attribution definition when reporting sales and charging ad fees:

An attributed sale will be when any buyer purchases the promoted item within 30 days of any click on the ad, regardless of whether the buyer themselves clicked on the ad. The item must be promoted at the time of click and the time of sale. The seller will be charged the ad rate at the time of sale.

You’ll still only pay when your items sell, so this will remain the same. As always, we recommend monitoring your performance and adjusting your strategy accordingly.

I'd like to say 'yup' but it seems more complicated and even more bizarre. You promote an item. If anyone buys the item within 30 days of someone clicking on your advert, then you pay the ad rate. But only if your item is being promoted at the time of the ad view click and  at the time of the sale. This qualifier makes no logical sense at all, starting with the fact that, if you weren't promoting an item, no-one would be clicking on an advert for it. It also seems to suggest that, if you switch off your promotion, then you don't pay for an ad-click sale, which is actually a great improvement on what happens now, where you pay the ad rate even if your campaign is well past just because the buyer clicked on it weeks ago. I expect eBay to clarify this very soon!

I'm going to turn all my promotions off from 24 June. I'm honestly tired of all the changes and desperate attempts to make more money of us - sellers while giving nothing in return. My sales stagnated despite of promotion so I refuse any extra money paid.

I hear you. I've had the same issues. A few things I learnt - I only promote one week per month and I never use a Priority Campaign - this seems to be designed purely to encourage people to watch their money pour down the drain. But in the end the only thing that really helps is to mantain a LOT of listings at any one time. It's the only way to get selling costs down to a sensible percentage. If anyone buys anything. eBay meanwhile seems absolutely and resolutely determined to drive themselves into corporate failure while taking their sellers with them.

I read in another post that it is best to turn promotions off before Sunday as ebay will make their change valid for promoted listings  on their platform from the last 30 days. I don't take any chances and switch my promotions off today. It's not like those promotions were bringing more sales in the past few weeks anyway. Unfortunately, there is still no real competition to ebay. Other platforms are intended for cheaper items and they do not have as many international buyers as ebay. Sales dried off and I have to look into plan B and stop hoping for regular sales on ebay (at least until September).
