"Simple Delivery" awareness

**Beware when relisting**

I relisted an item where the postage costs were £2.94(evri)

The item sold quickly , went to press "get postage label " when i noticed that a "simple delivery " label came up.🤷‍♀️

Knowing that the dimensions of the package

did not fall under the "simple delivery " T&C's

I did not purchase the label , and I was unable to cancel the label to purchase the correct label .

Frustrated I purchased postage online and took the item to the post office.

I then tried to contact Ebay CS (need i say more🙄)

Eventually I got a call ...this is how it went after explaining the situation.

CS: all relisted items will automatically be listed with simple delivery .

Me: But in this case the dimensions are not covered by this

C.S You should have just sent in anyway😱

Me: Why would i knowingly do that?

C.S: The customer would have got a notice to say they would have to pay excess

Me: But it wouldnt be just the excess

C.S Yes it would only be the extra 24cents 🙄they would pay .

So the upshot is

Ebay wont reimburse me the £2.70 that the customer paid for a simple delivery that they did not request

The customer can cancel the label ,but there is no way (apparently ) that ebay can (rightfully ) credit me with this £2.70 .

To add insult to injury because I cannot mark the package as dispatched , nor add the new tracking number it is probably likely that I wont ever see a penny for this item .

*Simple Delivery my 🍑

I tried to explain that excess charges dont work that way ....

'Ebay wont reimburse me the £2.70 that the customer paid for a simple delivery that they did not request '

ebay cannot reimburse *you* for the £2.70, because you didn't pay it. The buyer did.

When an ebay S.D. label is not used (i.e. the seller bought their own postage and simply sorted it out), the payment for the S.D. label should be refunded to the buyer's account. Not sure of the timescale for the refund (I have heard 30 days? 7 days? I dunno-how-many days?)

1. At the moment, Simple Delivery is anything but. Once all the changes have settled in a bit, it *may* become more useable ( I'm clinging on to a little life-raft of optimism here, after HMS ebay appears to have struck an iceberg....)

And 2. Ebay CS have never had much of a clue about their jobs.....

Did CS refuse to change the tracking number?  I thought we had to ask them to do that if we had to buy different postage.

Yes, this just happened to me.

Sold item undelivered due to insufficient postage !

On checking Ebay had charged me for a simple delivery smaller size parcel label after selling the item even though the order details showed a different service and the buyer was charged for different service.

Will now be checking anything automatically reliisted to avoid this kind of cocktail up again.

I am also not enjoying the so called SIMPLE DELIVERY. Buyer asked me to send item to different address on urgent postage which as a god citizen I did. So I did this manually at post office thinking that I could then update Ebay with the tracking number like in the good old days. BUT NO they have changed the functionality, we are forced to use SIMPLE DELIVERY and you can no longer manually despatch and you cannot manually add tracking details on the ORDERS section (even though, by the way, their own help section says that you can). Obviously you USED TO be able to do this (as per their help) and I used to do it all the time but not any more. So if I cannot add the tracking, how do I ever prove that the item was delivered? Could you give some more detail about what happened here please? Was it a Royal Mail label or Evri? Was the parcel returned to you and if so did the label have a size / weight printed on it and did it have 'marketplace seller' printed bottom right?

Well, as you sent it to a different address you'll have lost all seller protection anyway....☹️ But the vast majority of buyers are honest!

When if the item is not 'marked as delivered' (which it can't be, without the tracking number going in) you have to wait 14 days for your money.

Respectfully, please never, ever do this.

If you send it to a different address, you are entirely unprotected. Buyers have the ability to enter the delivery address both on their account and during checkout.

There is absolutely no valid reason for them to ask you to send it to a different address. If they make a mistake, cancel the transaction and relist so they can buy it again with the correct address.

Thankyou Lucy that is helpful, I can wait 14 days just as long as I know it will eventually sort itself out.....still sulking though.....

......... well the guy was stranded on a boat in Brighton Marina, away from home and needed a part, so for £28 I took a chance on the Brighton Marina address. Obviously I know that if I'm in a legal curt of law I have no legs to stand on but sometimes you have to just be prepared to work with people a bit, just cheesed off that the manual tracking number functionality that used to be on ebay has gone that I used to find quite useful.......thanks superchallenge for taking the time for the advice anyway, next time I know to ask him to enter his address on the order, lets hope ebay don't remove that function in the interrim, its just a lot for an occasional ebayer to know all these details.....
