I have been reading on here that the "marks as dispatched" option is no longer a viable choice for a private seller.
I don't get it, as, up until very recently, I could bundle 2 items sold to the same buyer as one order, print and use one label/track no. , and then mark the 2nd item as dispatched on the system and add the tracking number so it is the same for both items. This , to me, makes perfect sense...1 bundle, 1 box, 1 delivery...and , I was told , a refund to the buyer for the 'unused' label...
...what doesn't make sense is that , when I discovered that this is no longer an option, I had to unpack the items I had already bundled together, print the second label and then repack them separately as 2 separate orders going to the same address; therefore using 2 lots of packing material at my own expense! Ridiculous.
This does not help the buyers/customers; does not help the sellers and is not SIMPLER!. It does seem that eBay only want business sellers and either want small time operators/private sellers like me to either become one or do one!
I think it is outrageous and as soon as I have completed current listings I will no longer be selling. This is just one example of numerous compliactions I have had over the last 6 months!

Mark as Dispatched still exists, but only on Custom Postage items.
Yes, you are correct that combining orders with Simple Delivery is not yet functioning correctly. There are workarounds in Member-to-Member support if you search for this topic.

Deeply frustrating. I have an item sold awaiting collection. The buyer insists eBay have never send the collection code (spam folder checked and I believe her) and now I can't clear the item as dispatched in my admin area. I had other items to sell but, you know what, I'm not going to bother. Talk about making things complicated.
