I recently sold a used iPhone to a buyer (I haven’t posted it yet) but after checking their reviews I found a concerning one:
”scammer!!! Not positive feedback. Claims sent empty box (a well known scam). 20 years selling with 100% feedback from me, and now claims I am trying to scam them. AVOID. DO NOT SELL ANYTHING TO THIS BUYER.”
im aware that iPhone scans are unfortunately common and always a potential risk but this review is particularly alarming and has made me hesitant to proceed with this transaction. I understand sellers are generally obligated to complete sales once a purchase has been made, however in this case I was wondering if there was a way to cancel the order?? I am willing to accept any potential seller performance impact if it means I’m not scammed of over £100?

Forget seller performance, just run away!
Having re-read your post, yes you can simply cancel, you will probably have to use the option 'there was a problem with the buyers address' and they will likely leave a neg, but I'd say it is worth it - unlike selling iPhones on here, which are a magnet.

Thank you! Yes definitely not worth the risk of selling to them. I just didn’t want to potentially lose my account etc. for using a false cancellation reason or eBay thinking I’ve abused the order cancellation process or anything like that!

It's not ideal, and you can't make a habit of it, but I think in this case it is better than losing the money, which sounds quite likely. They are unlikely to take your account away based on one instance.
DON'T forget to block the buyer too. Just google eBay block bidder or you can do it from any message they send you.

Remember you can reply to any feedback left. A measured response to negative feedback has value.

Good point, also if they are scammers, they will probably put something ill advised which means you can likely ask eBay to get it removed. Come back here if you've any further questions for us 🙂
