Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

I’m a member for 14 years - I have today complained fiercely to EBay with regards to 4% + 75p charge on each item purchased as we all know this is a Back Door way of recovering the Seller Fees which were scrapped recently - Buyers already have adequate protection - as to payment 2 days after delivery - we’re at the mercy of Royal Mail to scan all  items when collected (not guaranteed) 😡

Fellow  members I urge you to let your disproval known - SHAME ON YOU Ebay😡😡

Upcoming ‘Buyer Protection Fees’

Oh my giddy aunt! I feel as if I’ve been slapped in the face with a wet fish. Couldn’t actually believe that email. So… 98% of my sales are low cost, sent second class untracked ( to keep the items in some way competitive), that means I won’t get paid for anything for two weeks?

Anyone know it’s LEGAL for eBay to keep all my sales money for 2 weeks? I always post out asap. The item has sold, the buyer receives fairly promptly if RM co-operates , but I wait for 2 weeks while eBay holds MY money?

Surely that sounds wrong?
I think I’m getting too old for this malarkey.

2025 for me now will be trying to direct more sales to my site and away from eBay. One thing with my site is no fees so cheaper all round.

I agree that eBay will not back down on this, I just think they need to rethink the payment side of it.  Why do they expect us to send free stuff! Have they had SO MANY reports of failed deliveries? How do they benefit from this!

Unfortunately they have the buttons to play with and we just have to adjust, not like it, just adjust.

If you have a website you should have an ebay business account and then wouldn't be affected by the changes.

Hi kath3735_wxmjn, I spoke with ebay this evening and they advised me that you can still chose your preferred postage provider. I, for one will only use Royal Mail and tracked 48 hours.

Kind regards

a private seller but most of my items are £5 or less so now not viable to sell on eBay as minimum tracked post is £2.70 plus there fees to buyer. Forcing up costs when people are trying to make savings where they can.

232 listed new items is not normal for a 'private' seller.  Bear in mind these changes do not impact business accounts.

Make no mistake, this is unscrupulous greed and penny pinching at the extreme. It’s time to move elsewhere…..

of course a private seller can have 232 items -they're allowed to have as many as ebay let them

Hi, I did exactly the same. I doubt it will be taken further even though the agent said it would be.

Shame on you ebay. Just go back to selling fee's.

He is selling all new items, he is supposed to have a business account.

EBay won’t return to basic seller fees, with this latest unscrupulous change….they have successfully reduced services to private sellers while introducing new fees for something that was arguably already in place. Make no mistake….this is sheer corporate greed at the highest level….cretinous! Time to go elsewhere…..

As a buyer only I'd be happy with a system where I could mark as arrived somewhere on the site so sellers got paid.  I tend to leave feedback in batches but I could mark as arrived when I hide the order in My eBay.  That would be sensible.  Won't happen though, for that reason, I expect.

You can leave feedback and rating stars, one of which asks "did the item arrive within the stated timeframe"

Leaving feedback confirms delivery has taken place and releases sellers funds

So you CAN release the funds, by leaving feedback

That’s only if the buyer leaves the feedback! The amount of feedback I have missed out on is ridiculous. This is where I’ve said over and over the years that it should be automated if it’s not left within say 7 days or something and no issues raised, however that fell on deaf ears too.

It is not the selling fees or " free to sell" - it is the implementation of the held funds, managed payments, and simply " managed" delivery, the zero visibility, pay to promote  etc etc etc .... too many changes and not in a good way, restricting the way we run " our accounts" and having to jump through too many hoops navigating the frequent goal post moves, creating difficulties when there need not be AND without any consultation(s)  with  their " members" ( read customers as that is what we are)  to get genuine feedback and important information/insight/ suggestions which actually could improve the site... eBays reputation has/is  going downhill fast.

Edit ...spelling

There's nothing that says a private seller can't sell new items. If you want to argue about what a trader is or isn't you can talk to yourself round & round in circles until you come to no conclusion because people are allowed to do what they are allowed to do without you trying to scare or demonise them.

Now the 2nd hand business seller types seem to have turned up to try their luck. As I said, they're lovely people (I say sarcasticy)... your buyers wont have much money to spend on your stuff though once they cant make any money on ebay. It will have a knock on effect.

A private seller may have the odd new item such as unwanted gifts or change of mind buys, but a private seller is somebody selling their own personal items. Anyone who makes or buys to sell needs a business account.

It's a scam to force buyers to pay the fees or sellers to take a hit and absorb the fee to make a sale.

The delay in payment will affect peoples ability to post out because some people rely on the funds to cover postage.

I will give it a couple of months after implementation and any of my cheap DVD's that don't sell by then are being removed from eBay and donated to charity shops. I barely cover postage costs already in the pricing.

I may leave higher priced items but they are very few and when they are gone, they are gone.

I am also going to stop buying on eBay unless it is something I absolutely cannot find on Amazon or elsewhere.

eBay will be losing buyers as well as sellers with this and it honestly serves them right for greed and gas lighting customers

..

All credit to people trying earn a bit of cash, but if they can''t cover the postage they need to rethink their life choices and avoid selling on ebay.  How do you cover a chargeback or an INAD claim if you can't even afford the postage?

buffster1963 wants to scare you all from selling anything or making any money. These people seem to think no one has any hobbies, collect anything or own more than a handful of possessions. Communist Socialist sorts who want to turn this country into a brain dead 3rd world rat race. Sheepdogs that want you to round you up.

I am not trying to scare anybody, i just know the laws and also Ebay rules better than you. Maybe do some research, or just hang around these boards a little to learn how things work.
