Special Delivery postage option?

I recently sold a couple of very valuable items and I wanted to use eBay's postage but there was no option for Special Delivery that would cover the value of those items. It only covered up to £750. Had to go to the Royal Mail to get the higher cover. eBay needs to sort this out.

Special Delivery postage option?

I went to change one of my postages on a draft listing to check and SD is there on the options on the pop-up box.   It's towards the bottom of a long list of options.  I don't use ebay postage so I don't enter the weight of the parcel during the listing process.   Maybe that makes a difference.

Ah yes, there is no option to increase the insurance amount via ebay. Also annoyingly you can't seem to buy Special Delivery with collection through ebay though? or maybe I'm not seeing it, whenever I need to use it I have to go and buy it from send.royalmail.com to get the collection arranged.

Can buy Tracked 24/48 with collection via ebay no problem since it is listed, you can select collection day etc.

Special Delivery postage option?

Unfortunately eBay don't help with issues as a seller if you bought postage outside of eBay in my experience, which makes this even worse.

Special Delivery postage option?

Where you buy your postage has nothing whatsoever to do with ebay seller protection.

In fact you get better protection from the couriers if you buy direct rather than through ebay, so buying through ebay is actually worse.

I don't think eBay's postage integration includes the option for additional insurance for Special Delivery. So yes you would need to purchase labels for that via Royal Mail website or in person at the post office.

I would imagine that items sold of that value by sellers who use eBay postage (i.e. not a large enough business to have a business account with Royal Mail or a premium courier) is a very small proportion of sales, so may not be something that eBay will add as an option. Doesn't help you, but that's how I expect it is.
