An item I'm selling which costs £6.80 to send due to weight (2.8kg) and size via Royal Mail. I'm not a huge fan of other courier firms so will stick with RM.
When I go to custom Delivery I select RM 48 Hr trackable. The item has sold a few times and no issue. A recent sale was to be via Evri and about £3.70 cost. I assumed it's down to simple Delivery and offers buyers different option but nothing showing on my item. In addition I just assumed Evri charge less as its a day or slower than RM.
Only when I came to post it via the post office using the QR code it said it was for a parcel up to 2kg. Evri's charhe for this weight is more expensive than RM (£7.50 approx).
Concerned the buyer would be lumbered with additional postage costs to meet the additional weight, I explained the situation and refunded him £4.50 so as to maintain my selling feedback and as a goodwill
gesture.
I contacted ebay via their chat because I was baffled by it all. It was explained that private sellers cannot customise the postage options - then why is it there! Additionally the chat person said the postage cost was based on an average with other similar items etc. Hence it being set at 2kg amd ebay would pay any differences. Wish I'd known this before my goodwill gesture to the buyer.
As things stand the whole thing is amiss of explanation, a difference in what is showing on your item compared to what buyers see when they make a purchase and the system (both app and desktop) is misleading.
I've looked at my listings and the postage, whilst saying £6.80 keeps changing to an item under 2kg which leads me to think a cheaper Evri option will be available despite not being the correct weight.
I'm baffled!!!! and out of pocket by £4.50 which won't break the bank but principle is biggy for me.
