Payment institution

Hello everyone, I recently bought a pair of headsets for £90 and the buyer had said it was all in perfect condition and that it was tested and fully working, however once I received it, there was parts missing such as charging wires, adapters, and the USB dongle was not only bent, but it wasn't even the one for my headset which means I can't even connect it wireless. I opened a return request but 2 days later my return request got closed and it's telling me to contact my payment institution for a refund, please help me with this, I can't lose that £90 as I'm going through some really bad financial difficulties at the moment and that was part of my budget for my PC

What reason did you pick for the return? If you had picked any not as described reason and were within 30 days of receiving the item then the seller should have had no choice but to send you a returns label and refund you. 
As the return is now closed though, you will get no more help from ebay so will need to go through your payment provider i am afraid.

 look here is the summary of my return, I don't understand it's only been 6 days of purchasing the item ? I uploaded photos for proof of it being faulty because it wasn't working with the dongle. Can you please help me get a refund

That case should not have been closed.  You did everything right. 

 

I suggest you contact ebay customer service when they open at 9.00am.

I was wondering what I did wrong as well but I couldn't figure out what I did, I was ready to send the package off and was about to leave the house to drop it off and I got an email saying the return has been closed.

 

I am going to wait for them to open and I'll contact them.

 

I had paid through a debit card.

Had you been sent a returns label? It does seem odd that it was closed.

I was given a QR code that was to be scanned at the post office, and I was just about to be on my way until it got closed. I've never come across this issue before.

You need to contact eBay Customer Services as the have full access to both accounts abd can explain what has happened here, something odd for sure.

 

This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services from the link below, for a Call Back option.  I do recommend contacting CS very first thing in the morning when the lines first open,  as there's more chance of Dublin answering

Lines open between 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays.

 

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends.

If you have no joy with eBay you can at least still get a refund via your debit card provider by issuing a not as described chargeback.

It would have been wiser to use a credit card.  More protection than with a debit card.

OK, I haven't done any research on it.  I thought there was something called Section 75 which makes payment with a credit card safer?  (Unless you took out the card a very very long time ago).

 

[Edit to add:]  I've now done a search and found https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/credit-cards/PayPal-Section75/ which leads me to think it's more complex even than I imagined.  What happens when you pay with a credit card and the money is going to ebay, not the seller?  It's all way above my pay grade.

As with all payment disputes the dispute is actually against ebay, but they claw the money back from the seller.

A Section 75 can be issued if a payment is over £100 and paid drect to the seller. Both eBay and PayPal would be counted as middlemen, the payment isn't a direct one, so an item purchased on eBay wouldn't be covered by Section 75.

One reason the case could be closed would be if you opened a case/chargeback with your bank after you had opened the Ebay case.

Normally, as far as I know, if an Ebay case is closed, they don't suggest you contact your payment institution UNLESS you have already contacted your bank to start a claim.

Is that actually what happened here?

That would cause your Ebay case to close automatically.

You can still return the item and get a refund, but you will be responsible for the cost of returning the item.
