Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

I got a shock today when Packlink charged me £3.18 extra for a parcel they said was overweight and too large for the postage I paid for it.  The item in question was Revells 1/500 Star Trek Enterprise Plastic Model Kit.

There is no way that the kit weighed even close to 1.5kg let alone 15kg and I checked the dimensions and the parcel was well within the required size for the price I paid.

The rub is in order to prove that the parcel is with the limits I need to send them Photos with the parcel on a scale showing its weight and other photos showing the precise height and width of the parcel, the problem being that the parcel has been delivered and the packaging has already been recycled.

So a warning to everybody using Packlink make sure you have photographic proof that your parcel is what you say it is or you with get charged extra because without photos they don't have to pay you back for anything or never use them again

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

Have you contested this?

I have in the past and sent photo's with the weight of a similar item plus a box with packaging with tape measure in photo's. I had it overturned. I think in some cases they just need some evidence to close the case.

I'm sure you can come up with some...

We've had occasional reports of this happening. I assume it's some automated machine error when two parcels get stuck together or similar.

You can contest the charge. If Packlink want a photo of a package and its weight then take such a photo and send it to them. Print out a duplicate of the label if you need to...

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

I've had a look at your advert of the 'Revell Star Trek' you sold.

On the your first picture it shows the printed size of the longer side of the box (588mm). You can take a scan of this picture & send to the Courier.

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

As previosly mentioned, reprint the address label, stick it on a box with some stuff in and photograph it on scales showing the correct weight.

I have won a couple of cases by doing that.  - For one they claimed a parcel I sent weighing about a kilo was, in their opinion, 18kg !

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

This happens if you put the wrong weight on the item and packlink tell evri the wrong weight. What i mean is if you choose an item with "up to 1kg" u think "oh its cool its under 1kg so i'm good" and u guess 100g...if its actually 200g, you'll get charged. The weight u put on it has to be over what it is cuz packlink tell Evri this weight (as i assume Packlink decide to pay for postable, packet, standard or large and keep the rest as profit)

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

I sent them an sternly worded email complaining about how was i supposed to weigh & measure something that had already been dispached, they replied that they would refund me the full amount, I think they had gotten a lot of messages about overcharging.  So job done.

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

IT IS TIME TO TAKE ACTION

Don’t just be a victim

Looking at various forums, it is obvious that thousands and thousands of people complain of being defrauded this way. A few pounds here and there, it is not big deal for an individual, but when you add it all up we are talking millions. I just spoke to an Ebay representative and EBay is not willing to do anything about this.

In fact Ebay will now take money directly from your bank account, even when you have disabled Packlink in  PayPal as an authorised payee.

Take action

Please report this to Trading Standards, plus, file an online report with the Police via Action Fraud.

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

I had exactly the same issue with them, their error and promised a refund and then wanted pictures to prove the weight! They had already admitted it was their fault but now will longer refund unless you have proof. Ridiculous, I won't be using them any more. Back to the old fashioned way for me, just have to work out how to do that!

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

Please at the very least, even if you don't want to raise this with Action Fraud and Trading Standards, copy paste below and email to watchdog@bbc.co.uk and ripoffbritain@bbc.co.uk thank you

We are having to post this again as previous posts get conveniently archived or deleted.

We invite as many victims as possible to report the issue to Action Fraud but also email BBC theoneshow ( watchdog) and RipOffBritain , report it to Trading standards and raise a formal complaint with eBay.

Please free to copy paste (also make sure you include Packlink in the email title)! The more people report this the more chance it will be picked up.

Sellers Allege Widespread Postage Underpayment Scam Involving Packlink and eBay

We would like to raise alarms over an alleged systematic scheme involving the delivery company Packlink, with eBay being accused of enabling this practice. Many sellers claim they are being unfairly charged under the pretext of "underpaid postage," with many taking to forums and social media to share their experiences. A simple Google search for "Packlink scam" reveals the extent of this issue, with countless sellers expressing frustration and financial losses.

Many sellers are speaking out, with growing calls for an investigation. The issue has become so widespread that an online search for “Packlink scam” yields numerous complaints, blog posts, and forum discussions detailing similar experiences. These accounts paint a picture of widespread exploitation targeting small businesses that rely on eBay for their livelihood.

The Alleged Scheme

1. Surprise Deductions by Packlink
Packlink is accused of deducting arbitrary amounts, typically £3.18, from sellers’ bank accounts weeks or months after the alleged postage occurred. These deductions are said to exploit the direct debit authorisationthat sellers are required to set up when using eBay’s shipping service.
2. Revoked Direct Debits Met with eBay Withholding Funds
Sellers who revoke Packlink’s authority to withdraw funds are faced with eBay stepping in to withhold their funds to cover the disputed charges. Sellers argue this tactic makes eBay complicit in the scheme, effectively circumventing their ability to protect their accounts from unjust charges.
3. Unreasonable Burden of Proof
When sellers dispute the charges, Packlink reportedly demands unreasonable evidence, such as photographs of parcels and proof of the postage weight, which most sellers do not routinely retain.

* Financial Impact: While individual charges are small, the cumulative effect is significant for sellers who already operate on slim profit margins.
* Trust Erosion: The perception that eBay and Packlink are working in tandem against sellers has shaken trust in the platform.
* Consumer Protection Concerns:Sellers argue that these practices may violate the Direct Debit Guarantee and consumer protection laws under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

A Call for Accountability

The situation has sparked calls for action from both affected sellers and consumer rights advocates. They are demanding:

1. Transparency: Clear evidence to substantiate any alleged postage underpayments.
2. Fair Practices: A halt to the practice of withholding funds or automatic deductions without seller consent.
3. Investigations: Independent scrutiny of Packlink’s operations and eBay’s role in facilitating the deductions.

Quotes from Affected Sellers

“This isn’t about one or two mistakes; it’s a systematic issue. Packlink charges whatever they want, and eBay just goes along with it. Sellers are left powerless,” said one seller.

“We rely on eBay to run our businesses. To feel like the platform itself is enabling this kind of exploitation is disheartening,” said another.

For Further Information

For those interested in investigating further, a simple Google search of “Packlink scam” offers a clear snapshot of the frustration faced by countless sellers.

Even if we no longer use it, others continue to be scammed, hence our suggestion to report this to the authorities and watchdog@bbc.co.uk and ripoffbritain @bbc.co.uk

Beat the ******* at their own game, I fully approve. They clearly do not actually have proper records at all as another recent poster discovered. When challenged for evidence, suddenly it was a 'mistake'.

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

Thanks, yes it seems to be a standard trick and not worth my time. I will
go back to doing my own postage labels with who I want.

I also reported to BBC Watchdog. If enough of us report the problem they
may investigate and that would be good.

Re: Packlink Recharing after Parcel was delivered

I have had this happen this week.  A dress that weighed less than 500g was reported as weighing 1300g 😱 and charged an extra £3.18. I complained and having a refund. However now having researched the issue and realizing it is a widespread scam is extremely concerning.

Is Ebay safe to use anymore?

I have found someone that has been charged over £50 since Jan, she has since removed all listings because it was costing her more than she was making 🤬🤬
