PRE - OWNED : are they really this incompetent

I started looking for things this morning with my mobile

They now have the words "pre-owned" on the top line search results..so taking up valuble words in the top line decription

THIS MORNING Smiley Surprisedn a mobile  if searching for example: a ford escort xr3i alloy wheel

you would see results something like: pre-owned ford escort xr

so i thought maybe it's only this adroid application that had it on

so i searched using google and landed on that default one that gets you in here ..M-ebay or something.

that does the same Smiley Sad

is this a glitch...anyone else getting it ..or have i activated something that i dont want?

are the techs really this incompetent, if it's here to stay then god help us!

who is going to search for anything we advertise if they get results like that.

It's under 'Options' on the right hand side but it's only available for a short time.

It is futile to teach a caveman to play Scrabble, the only word they know is 'eerrrk' and they can't spell it.

I also discovered this this afternoon. Absolutely hate it - I was very relieved when I checked on the computer and it wasn't on the search results on there too. I'm quite worried it will further decrease ebay sales - sticking 'pre-owned' in front of everything makes it sound like it will be in poor condition and puts me off buying.

Just another thing in a long list to ruin a once great site. eBay sucks more than my Dyson.
Why do they pay people to do this nonesense?

Thanks for the replies so far: confirming what i had seen.

I''m surprised that not a lot people have added to this thread.

perhaps I'm not good at describing the significance of this change

basically means:

That your main keywords in the title may not be visible to people searching on a mobile

There is little room on a mobile to show the "FULL" title line anyway ..and ebay have made it  even worse by adding "pre-owned" in front of it.

I've read here somewhere that as many as 40 percent of purchases on ebay are now made with a mobiles.

if they are searching for a particular item, that means typing in more than 3 key words, then the results they get back will not help them decide..may even frustrate them causing them to go searching elsewhere on another site.

Yes i agree that just the words themselves are off-putting

Guess i wasn't quick enough to edit the first post.

@markepsilon

eBay has confirmed it is a small test rolled out on mobile that will be ending soon.

Was there a place on the device to "tell us what you think"?

That is how eBay acquires feedback on their tests.

I would, but the snowflakes would have their community "values" offended if I really told them what I think of these pointless changes.

Glad it will be ending soon, I don't understand why they would think it's a good idea to try it in the first place. It feels like they're just playing around with ebay for the sake of it. There are far more pressing and constructive things they could do if they have free time on their hands...

It sounds almost as if they want to demote used items in the eyes of buyers. Perhaps they don't want the used item market any more and just want to go all out and try and compete with am az on.

My guess is that buyers or sellers have complained that it is too hard to find the new/used attribute on mobile or that purchases were made with the wrong expectation because the attribute was not readily visible.  This trial solution, while making the attribute highly visible in search, has its own issues.

Trouble is, they aren't just doing it with used items.

The eBay test is using "Pre-owned" to describe items which are:

- used

- new but not in original packaging

- new but not boxed

- factory seconds

- brand new but shop soiled or with cosmetic faults

- unused but vintage

This may seem like a minor distinction, but while you might be happy with a "pre-owned" cooker, a "pre-owned" pair of stockings is a different matter entirely.

I've still got a pair of scarlet red thick woollen socks I bought in a charity shop in Kirkwall in 1995. Worn them loads of times; nobody can see them inside wellies. Best sock bargain I ever had. Smiley Very Happy

A pre-owned cooker often requires hours of cleaning.

very annoying indeed , seeing pre owned aside virtually every item is distracting and putting me off looking .
hope its removed quickly - never to re appear

I noticed this earlier and at first I thought I had stumbled on the listing practices of one seller. What an odd edit to make! If people can't read an item description then complain about an item that doesn't meet their expectations, on their own head be it.

My gripe is that its taking up valuable top line description space, on some mobiles all they would see is line after line maybe hundreds of  "pre-owned ford escort" no indication of mk1 mk2 mk3 ..colour etc year or what the part is...........those sort of result's will send people elsewhere!
