A quick post and a straightforward question.
From January 2025 , which begins tomorrow, Ebay have to pass your details to HMRC if you sold 30 or more items in 2024.
Have they requested your NI Number yet?
Only asking because they have not asked for mine yet.

You are of course correct regarding last year however since reading again the message I received last week it does specifically state: "Since you've reached this threshold" - no mention of which year. I would have passed last year's threshold in late January 2024. Due to the drastic drop in sales since it would have only been a couple of weeks ago for this year, hence the reason why I think they are responding to this year's threshold.
No problems either way for me; as a business I submit all the data to HMRC anyway. It could be they will submit the data for two years at the same time next January, or more likely, submit last year's report shortly now they have the NINO.
I guess we will have to wait for a copy of the report they submit to be certain either way.

You can see the report at https://www.ebay.co.uk/mes/transaction-reports?q=tax&sh=true

Which clown in government decided this. Was it Rishi Sunak, or Keir Starmer?
Be interesting to know why the government has targetted ebay in this way but yet the massive corporations putting money in offshore accounts etc get away with it.

Our government agreed with about 30 others that these sales would be reported. Ebay is not being targeted, it applies to a number of online sites.

@the-nutwood-collection Thanks for that. At the moment I just have "You haven’t received a Digital sales report yet."
I bookmarked the link for future use.

I can't claim the credit - the link for the report was mentioned by an OP on another post!
I too haven't 'received a digital sales report yet'. If eBay won't generate one until I get £1700 in sales, then I reckon that it'll be 2030 before HMRC hears about me.
In the olden days, I'd have reached the limit in less than a month. Those were the days ...

Nothing but a con, after all. Ebay can keep funds in their own account now for days and weeks unless you use first class recorded and it gets there next day. Even then still 2 days after that.
The money does not automatically go in your account and you have to withdraw it from ebay into your own account; tactics done on purpose to make you spend it on the site and them to gain further intrest.
You can now sell 31 items costing £1 each and now would be reported to HMRC; what a joke

'You can now sell 31 items costing £1 each and now would be reported to HMRC; what a joke'
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep, you sell 31 items at £1. each and ebay's computer will send your details to HMRC's computer..... HMRC won't do anything with that info though. You are not their target.
But if you sold 10,031 item at £1. each, they might do something!

25-03-2025 1:04 PM

oh dear! Just how difficult is it to transfer the money from e bay to your bank account. Used to have to do that with paypal so what is the difference? They cannot 'make' you spend it on site, they may encourage you to but at the end of the day it is up to you.

Just transferred some money from selling from ebay to my bank account and a message on the ebay app said it will be automatic from 1st April 2025.

Isnt that just when the first automatic quarterly payment is due for people who do not withdraw themselves?
25-03-2025 5:44 PM
I don't know, only came up today so assumed it was something new, also starting from 1st April 2025, so seems to indicate something new.

If you click on the “ learn more” it will explain about the automatic quarterly payments.

It's ridiculous! As a private seller selling items exempt from tax, I should notice to provide NI# particularly as under GDPR it is not necessary for them to have it where tax does not apply. I won't share it with them and will stop selling on Ebay.
