AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I am just making suppositions based on my own experience and how that platform I looked after would handle a similar migration . I would interesting what triggers a "user " migration and how it is controlled
It definitely looks like a staggered rollout however but the fact they can't just flip a switch indicates this is not a simple task . I do wonder if they can actually roll back what ever they are doing or any "roll back" has to be a "forward" change on the new platform/application etc
Specifying the 15th just added to the confusion of something that is already very messy , confused and unpopular

I read on here somewhere that the 'new' mandatory implementation of simple delivery is now April 28th.
I'm totally ignoring it as they're greed has outstripped their technical prowess.

Wow , that changes how I thought they would do it
I am glad I am not selling anything and just spectating 🙂

So ebay are trying to change to Royal Mail labels have asked for 2 x small parcel, we shall see...PLUS they say to change preferences to Royal Mail only AND say so doing wont affect account or listings...hmmm. They also say buyers can have combined purchases if put in basket and paid at same time and postage is combined (by then I wasnt going to argue but maybe others can confirm) AI must get the abacas out...

Feel bad for the following seller from something I bought at least a month ago. I just got an automatic postage refund:

Here's a summary of your refund. You should receive it in 3-5 working days. |

this post has accurately captured the situation - Seller fees were never an issue and it made no sense at the time to stop charging this and then to recoup with 'buyer protection' Buyers have always had protection as all they needed to do was log a case and in the few cases raised against me (due to postal damage) I have fully refunded. The new postage options are terrible and don't even have the most common small parcel <2kg instead replacing with medium parcel - crazy - it is clear EBay's AI tools have not been trained to fully understand what it takes to package items.
The only conclusion I came to after all of this is they simply don't want private sellers and I would question EBAY's management here.
I have tried Vinted but it is in my opinion not a viable replacement to old EBAY.

true- but you need a business bank account and all the overheads that running as a 'business'.

So ebay will have had about 5 weeks use of money which is rightfully yours. Sounds like yet another nice little earner when you add up all the other refunds that they hold for 5 weeks. A mental image of Arthur Daley keeps coming to mind.

But the odd thing is, the item arrived. It was for something I bought, not sold.
So why am I being refunded, and who is paying for this? The seller or Ebay?
As the seller refunded me £10 as the item sold for too much, I think morally I should offer to refund them if it's come from their pocket!

The seller, for some reason, decided not to use the label you bought and instead bought another one out of their own pocket. When that happens ebay refunds the buyer for the unused postage.
If you want to pay the seller for the postage you will have to arrange that outside of ebay.

They're not known as the "San Jose Mafia" in some circles for nothing.

If the purchase was originally made using simple delivery under that system the buyer purchases the postage label from ebay so they can take a cut and pass on less than the full amount to royal mail/evri.

I delisted all my items on April 6th and I won't be selling on eBay again unless they abandon the forced "simple" delivery.
I've been quite happily writing the address and taking my parcels down to the local post office for five years, through over 1000 sales and achieving 100% positive feedback.
It was bad enough when they started to try to force you to use Evri by"recommending" them (no thanks)... then to allow collection in person (I don't want a procession of people turning up at my house!)...then ridiculous buyer fees which made the items more expensive than you intended them to be. And now this!! I'm out, I'd rather throw my items in a bin!

What you've said is so true. I used RM collection service. On my listings I stated that I was only charging what RM charged me which was £2.70 for a Large Letter using 48hr Tracked.
I trust my local posties more than I trust SD. I would never use evri for anything. Plus if a seller uses RM 48hr Tracked which offers compensation why should I have to pay a higher price than what a item is originally listed for because of BPF.

Wouldn't surprise me if this happens a LOT in the next few months. I can see a lot of people getting quite confused.
Let's amend that.
Getting more confused...

Agree with you in regards to the automatic "collection in person" thing they've well & truly sneaked in...only noticed it by chance when revising an item a few days ago...I too do not want any tom or dlck turning up at my house...what on earth are they thinking by sneaking stuff like this in?..they just get worse.
22-04-2025 8:36 PM
I guess all any of us can do is wait to see what the official definitive announcement is when they have finally changed all listings to SD.

Well we’ll wait and see, won’t we?
I’ll be keeping an eye on the situation. I’m fortunate in that I don’t need to sell but it was a good (sometimes fun) way of decluttering for some extra money.
I’ll only start selling again if SD is stopped or made optional.
BPF, not such a problem to me in the short time I listed with it.

Did they specify a year 🙂

All of my listings got automatically changed.
I have just had to remove two lovely, rare IKEA pictures from sale as to ship them need to safely package and will be ca. 75cm or so. Maximum length of package with SD is now 61cm and the option to enter 'special size & weight has been removed. SO no choice but to remove from sale - this is crazy.
Will try local Facebook marketplace but that limits me to central scotland so unlikely to sell them
