AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I guess open to interpretation because they said protected rather than compensated. The help page is the same, one of the listed benefits is:
And the eligibility is:
However, to add to the confusion they also say:
So what if the item is in the carrier's prohibited list and how are we supposed to know when eBay makes that choice?

You quoted apparently new Evri SD and Yodel Packlink rates to NI in response to my earlier post regarding their respective delivery charges - I provided the example which my post was referring to, from previous experience.

In terms of the Uk there is one thing that could make them reverse out of it fairly quickly . RM could pull out of this deal for 2 reasons
1: Because they lose a significant amount of revenue as a result of this deal . Rather than increase business it drops significantly and they are charging Ebay less per parcel. They could see 80% drop in Ebay sales packages , Ebay sales have plummeted and Evri stand to gain by default of being cheaper
2: The deal itself is a cartel set-up and they may be forced to by other partners and the authorities
I thing Ebay will try and stick with it as it is part of long term strategy and this has been the result of 6 months of major changes already , they are too far committed but if its already dead in the water , then what do they do !

I'm telling myself I'm not coming back as a seller (or buyer, come to that).
If things change as in sellers back in control of THEIR postage, and I really can't see that happening, it will come as a delightful surprise!

Though our posties change from time-to-time, the Evri drivers in our area seem to be different week-to-week - the one who delivered to us yesterday has been a few times in the last few months, and, like our posties, always rings the bell and waits for us to come to the door...
....but the girl who came today didn't do either - while sat here in the lounge, the only reason I knew something had arrived was because the cats suddenly pricked up their ears and stared at the door; on opening it to check, sure enough, a package was propped up in the corner, and she was disappearing down the drive...

I think one of the things that hasn't occured to them is that many of us sellers are also buyers - and if we're not selling, we're quite possibly not buying either...

One of the points in my email to the eBay Executive Office was about fragile items which are prohibited by certain couriers. They replied:
eBay Simple Delivery provides protection for items up to £750 so should any issues occur while your parcel is in transit, eBay will resolve this for you.

Three things jump out at me in their statement above.
- Ebay (ie their lawyers) have specifically chosen the word "protection", not "compensation". What exactly do they mean by protection, and why haven't they said compensation? (rhetorical question, it's pretty obvious why).
- Ebay will "resolve" it. Again what does this mean? They might resolve the issue to *their* satisfaction but not to the satisfaction of the seller.
- They will resolve it "for you". This clearly indicates that they are absolving themselves of any responsibility, even though they've forced the choice of carrier on to the seller.
If I was sending fragile items, I wouldn't be confident about Ebay compensating me if they got broken.

It seems SD is going to do a slow burn towards its transition.
To really see it in its mandatory form, all the private sellers can do is ask "are we there yet ?".
Just sit back and watch the month of April go by. SD might still be doing its transition.

None of my listing have changed to SD and custom is still available to use.

Strange, as I tried to send a non ebay parcel to NI yesterday and Evri say they don't accept parcels from UK mainland to NI, which is how it has been for a few years now.

What exactly do they mean by protection

Just checked on the Evri website - they do (and I believe always did), but with an additional 'Location Charge' as seen, which bumps the price up, as per my original post on the subject:
Perhaps yours didn't comply with a policy of some sort?
What's interesting is that the SD rate quoted by craddockcourtsales does not appear (initially, at least) to include that 'Location Charge' - though who's to say it doesn't get added on later?

I'm refusing to buy as i can't sell have found what i need in other places. Not all business will lose out if they have their own websites and use alternative sites as well. Need my fish food soon a big order and he is in a different place as well as here and it's cheaper
17-04-2025 6:39 PM
A lot of my purchases here were hobby-related - I'd sell half-a-dozen items, then buy one or two - so it was by and large 'self-funding'...
....I've got a couple of things still on watch - one I'm now unlikely to buy, one which I might - but after that, in all likelihood, no more...

Post Office Limited enters the chat.
As someone pointed out previously, they're who could take the biggest hit, due to a drop in direct sales of stamps/postage - though, when I occasionally used it, I usually bought my RM48 postage via Packlink, I always paid for Letter/Large Letter postage across the counter at my local PO...

There is a big difference between "compensation" and "protection". And we don't know who will protected by eBay with SD: buyer or seller?
And with Royal Mail: the seller or sender received full compensation up to £ 150.00 for lost or damaged items : posted Royal Mail Tracked 24/48. If item arrived damaged or was lost: a buyer received full refund from seller once compensation was paid by RM to sender (seller). Was I think how we all dealt with this issue.
Now with SD we have no clue how it will work. In favour of seller or buyer ???

Taking a stab in the dark, I'd go with in eBay's favour ..

"What's interesting is that the SD rate quoted by craddockcourtsales does not appear (initially, at least) to include that 'Location Charge' "
When I tried on draft listings it seems that Simple Delivery is one rate for whole of UK without the extra charge that couriers charge for Northern Ireland or Scottish Islands etc being passed on.
Pre SD I used to have to exclude possible sales to NI etc. because it was too complicated for me to have lots of different possible delivery rates, now under SD once I am confident I intend to remove postcode exclusions.
