NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Haha, no offence taken! I had over 250 vintage knitting patterns listed that I inherited from my mother in law.  I ended them last week apart from the ones that had watchers.   My other listings are paused under 'time away'.  When I originally took the photos over 6 years ago, it took me weeks.  Literally.  The thought of photgraphing them all again makes me want to grab the lighter fuel and  make myself a nice bonfire.  I could put them all in the recyling bin but some of them are from the 1940s and they are in fact wonderful pieces of social history so it seems sad to not try to match them to someone who would be interested

Ha! I see. I totally get it, I’m a knitter (and general crafter) myself and still a bit in denial about how much stuff I have. My intention is definitely not to leave it for someone else to deal with though and a lot of mine (the knitting patterns are all digital though, thankfully) -  may well get destroyed.  Good luck to you ☺️

Thread is closed, so unless they do "get back to you" direct, it's yet another 'non-answer' on their part...

I’m disappointed that isn’t hasn’t been clarified by now tbh. Way too many things are up in the air with all of this.

I do 10 day auctions, thinking that if you do the same 7 days i.e Sunday to Sunday, the same people see it on the same days. 10 days is a different rotation of people. It's OK, you can call me mad if you like.

Interesting. I’ve only ever done Buy-it-Now with no offers. I don’t ever bid on auctions either, (which had the advantage of keeping my spending down!)

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Something else whch has just occured to me whilst vewing a referred thread - another reason why I switched to Yodel from Evri was because they charge the 'standard' £2.69 to deliver a <1Kg package to Northern Ireland...

....whereas Evri's price is about double that, as I recall. We can exclude sellers from just about any country in the world - but the last time I checked, NI is still part of the UK...

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Would you consider selling them as a job lot? I’ve done it with knitting needles, random *bleep* of yarn and magazines.

Someone….would buy a box of vintage knitting patterns, you won’t have to donate them if you can’t list them individually again.

@technthread

The fact they didn't say the poster was incorrect about compensation being removed from Royal Mail 48 Tracked should be worrying people.

They did say compensation wouldn't be necessary but if that's the case why do they lay out compensation levels for "eBay Delivery" in the Help section ..

Exactly.  These things once lost can never be regained.  We  had a vintage camera which a local vintage camera  shop said they  would buy for £60 from us - but only if it had the battery cover.  This had been lost over the years.  We went on eBay, found the battery cover for £10.  The seller was happy, we were happy because we were £50 up and the dealer made his profit when the delighted collector bought the complete camera for his or her collection.   I sold 4 Williams and Glynn's piggy banks to a happy person in Canada who bought them because they reminded him of his childhood bedroom window sill.  He was happy to pay 4 times the amount of postage than he did for the pigs. I find it unbelievably sad that such transactions are likely to come to an end because buyers and sellers who are motivated by the love of old things, and not by money, can no longer connect through eBay.

You win the thread for me today. I’ve done exactly the same with antique sewing machines. I found a 1969 Bernina Minimatic that was a perfect full set in its case except that it had lost its extension plate, I bought it for £40.00

Six months later someone had an extension plate on for £10.00 so I bought that, had the machine cleaned and serviced, enjoyed it for a while then sold it for £150 to a very happy buyer. I didn’t make anything (the servicing was £120.00), but its the hunt, the underlying hobby and the humanity of it that I like.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I was thinking of listing the few items I have which would be exempt from SD before metaphorically wandering off into the sunset, but it's looking more likely that absolutely everything will be going back into storage in the summerhouse until either eBay comes to its senses - oh look, another flying pig - or I find an alternative platform...

My stuff will end up in a skip too so I’m trying to be careful - No family to deal with anything so I’m eyeing up my collections and the local auction house to see if that’s an option now.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"You can opt out if Evri as I have but I'm not sure it makes any difference. I have two random things that have changed to SD and they are £2.87 with vat come to £3.44. Apparently, according to reading this thread, that's Evri. Very helpful when my po doesn't accept those."

I opted out from Evri but don't know if it will work.

I even don't have a Post Office anymore, closed forever. Can only ask Royal Mail to collect my parcels from home. No way they will take an Evri parcel.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I hope the 3.44 is NOT evri

ive been assuming it’s Royal Mail because I have them deselected

so much for deselecting

how can we be sure ? We cant

so if that’s evri, what is Royal Mail 1-2 kgs?

 *bleep*

and I’ve been posting to people that’s that what it is

edit

Ok

deselected Royal Mail

I get 2.98 for 1kg and 4.06 for 2kg

presumably evri 🙄🙄

thats the actual price incl vat so 3.44 must be Royal Mail after all , surely

🤣 driving me bananas

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Under the "Monumentally Complex" old fashioned you buy RM48 with collection direct from the Ebay website and as long as you did it before 21:00 you would get a collection  booked for the next day , if you did it after 21:00 and wanted a collection the next day you bought RM48 on a drop off basis and just followed the link on the next page to book a collection from the Royal Mail site . It was so easy and so reliable as your booking confirmation Email would give an approximate time window .

I am not sure how "the earth shatteringly brilliant Simple Delivery works and whether Ebay provide you with  a link to the RM website but if they don't and this applies to an Royal Mail label you have you  ( I.E other returns)  you can just go to the Royal Mail website  and  put in the reference number from the label , normally the tracking number and the Royal Mail will collect for free .  They did initially charge but it has been free for a couple of years now and as a service you cannot knock it.

Evri also offer a collection service but as it costs Ebay don't offer it  .  Having used it , it was ok when things worked but you only have 3 days for the courier to collect , and if they didn't collect Evri would take longer than 3 days to react

For someone like me being disabled home collection is  a real boon  and Ebay not allowing home collection to anyone other than RM could be classed as discrimination !   Another one to add to the near endless  list  of defects with SD .

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

To all the sellers that have low value items that are no longer worth listing and you are wondering what to do with them as they are too good for the skip why not sell them in bulk to a local antique centre.

Ok you won't get much money for them and no fun selling them but it saves them from the tip.

Just an option for you to consider.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

This is so true. I had posted elsewhere that some of my items if donated to charity shops would just have been thrown out. However, with clear descriptions of flaws, etc, Quite a few have found new homes on here - felt, old paints, crafting materials, doll's house items, etc. Some buyers have been delighted!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Another fubar spotted,  the item not received process has not been updated on the help pages. So buyers are still instructed to contact seller for information or raise a refund request.

Whereas SD is stating that seller isn't responsible.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

@ja142868

Not 100% correct.

eBay are stating that the sellers aren't responsible as long as they fulfill all of eBay's and the couriers terms and conditions.

One of which is the rather elegant following EB's packaging guidance.

Great!

How exactly do you prove you have when eBay do not accept photos or video as proof?

These aren't fubars as you refer to them. It looks deliberate.

Today it seems they removed compensation from Royal Mail 48 Tracked. Supposedly it isn't necessary within SD ...

Yeah

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Hi Andy I asked this question twice on the phone as I wanted to be sure . So….

all  items listed under £10 and under 100g regardless of how much the item has finished on custom delivery will still count . Also if multiple items have sold as above and you want to combine postage custom delivery will still count and you can adjust the postage . Only items that are over £10 and over 100g when listed Special delivery will kick in so basically it all depends on how you list your item . Hope that helps . I’ll be listing all my heavy items 100g + on E B I D

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

For INR claims, I don’t think sellers are responsible if using SD

for loss its  the same

for damage in transit, that’s a different kettle of fish

—-

Items are protected against loss or damage from the moment they are scanned into the courier’s delivery network until they are marked as delivered by the courier. There’s also no need to call the courier or customer support. In the event that a buyer raises a claim for an issue that occurs during transit, you won’t be held responsible. Even fragile items are protected when you follow our packaging guidance.

There’s no cover limit for eligible items with Simple Delivery. They’re fully protected for the amount they were sold for on eBay providing you post the item using the prepaid Simple Delivery label provided, comply with the eBay delivery Terms and Conditions, and properly package the item.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Good posting.

I am myself considering making “items job lots” which a local auction house
have agreed to accept on their fortnightly auctions.

Probably wouldn’t make as much as single lots used to on eBay (several
months ago before ridiculous BPF and SD) but better to sell than landfill.
