NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I fully understand and agree with you. I have had some items on for probably years, quirky, old, rare-survivors, all sorts of random things, that are too unique to simply throw away, and some of these items have sold eventually, not for a fortune, but it pleases me that this type of stuff finds a new loving owner rather than gets recycled or dumped. It's not all about making money (please note eBay), it's about moving things on to someone who wants them.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It just won't have it for me, sorry.  I tried right clicking on the photos before I came on here, as I've always done that in the past, but it just wants to save as a webp file not a jpg.  That's whether it's my own item or someone else's.  I'm wondering if it is the operating system as my husband insists on us using Linux.  Thank you again.

Yes, I agree with andyf117, done the same with one of my unsold delisted listings. I use an AppleMac.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

With my OCD I keep every photo until I sell it! Just in case!

I had them in a pile, took a photo, whipped it away etc etc, it didn't take too long, ( but I do like monotomy,  it's writing the descriptions afterwards.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Sadly, because most of them require A4 envelopes  they will be eligible for Simple Delivery, therefore mandatory,  as the dimensions are too big even though the weight and price suggests that Simple Delivery isn't appropriate.  I sold one of my older knitting patterns that fitted into a smaller envelope a couple of weeks ago and took it into the post office and asked to send it tracked.  The clerk said it was too small to be  tracked so I had to take it home and put it into a larger A4 envelope to get the tracking number.  So I think that is why they are not interested in anything smaller than A4.  And don't worry, I would never destroy them even though I only make a couple of pounds on them.   I just have a weird sense of humour!!  If I can't sell them on eBay I will just find someone to donate them to.

I keep all my photos until either feedback's been received or the 90-day time limit for it expires - that way, I've got my record of what it was and how it looked...

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Exactly.  These things once lost can never be regained.  We  had a vintage camera which a local vintage camera  shop said they  would buy for £60 from us - but only if it had the battery cover.  This had been lost over the years.  We went on eBay, found the battery cover for £10.  The seller was happy, we were happy because we were £50 up and the dealer made his profit when the delighted collector bought the complete camera for his or her collection.   I sold 4 Williams and Glynn's piggy banks to a happy person in Canada who bought them because they reminded him of his childhood bedroom window sill.  He was happy to pay 4 times the amount of postage than he did for the pigs. I find it unbelievably sad that such transactions are likely to come to an end because buyers and sellers who are motivated by the love of old things, and not by money, can no longer connect through eBay.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's OK to save it as webp.  You can upload a webp picture to an eBay listing, and you should be able to view the picture in your browser.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

OK, it's solved.  Hubby has installed a browser extension which has provided a work around to a formatting  problem caused by Google.  I have no idea what that means.  Anyway,  I won't have to take 250 plus photos of knitting patterns again.  Every day's a school day!!  Thanks andyf117 and everyone else who tried to help me.  I admit to being totally frazzled by all this eBay nonsense.  I'm not even sleeping properly.  Is it just me, or does anyone else feel like that?  I could stop selling tomorrow and not be bothered about the money, but I have so many inherited items that I desperately want to match to people who will love them.  The family have already said "Don't try and dump that old *bleep* on us!" so if I don't find homes for my vintage stuff during my life time I know it will end up in a skip.  So sad that buyers and sellers who love and respect old things may not be able to connect with other on ebay in the future.  Anyway, you folks on here are helping me to feel less stressed so thank you.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I am sure I saw yesterday that all "large letter" size items will be forced to use Simple Delivery.

There's a whole bunch of items in the exceptions list which won't fit into a small envelope:-

This is all giving me a headache.

It is not simple at all!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I use Mac, and I can Control-Click the image and save it as a jpg.

I've just tried doing this with one of my images, which happened to be a pastel drawing of an elephant.  Beneath the image, there were sponsored "Similar Items" - which were drawings of lots of naked people, nearly all women.  AI thought women were similar to an elephant 😮

"There may be cases where we’re unable to honour your courier selection, for example because of the weight of your item. If this happens, we may provide a label for a courier you've excluded"

AND ? What circumstances? they've only given one example.

Very ambiguous,  maybe we use evri when there's a vowel in the day 🤔🤔

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's called Simple Delivery: but should be called STRESS Delivery.

My items or still not switched to SD.

As I cannot use Evri due to my out- of -area postcode with no drop off locations for Evri items:  eBay should have this on the exclusions list. Was told by customer service "Specialist team"  we will listen to your feedback. Is now 2 weeks ago and nothing has been done.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"I had over 250 vintage knitting patterns listed that I inherited from my mother in law. I could put them all in the recyling bin but some of them are from the 1940s and they are in fact wonderful pieces of social history so it seems sad to not try to match them to someone who would be interested"

I've got some items from the 1940s too.  Like your items, they're inherited and their value is social history rather than monetary.  I only put them on ebay because it  seemed a shame to dispose of social history if somebody would want it.   However, we have various "wartime weekends" around here during the summer where there are stalls selling 1940s memorabilia, and I might offer them to a stallholder.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I put my knitting patterns in a4 envelopes, I won't fold patterns. I posted one this morning, LL was allowed by custom delivery. I went with royal mail letter/large letter second class, it let me take it to post office and they put their label on. Whether we can do that after 21st April when eBay is going to separate letter from large letter, who knows.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

You can opt out if Evri as I have but I'm not sure it makes any difference. I have two random things that have changed to SD and they are £2.87 with vat come to £3.44. Apparently, according to reading this thread, that's Evri. Very helpful when my po doesn't accept those.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Nothing I've seen regarding the 100g/£10 limit for items to be eligible for exclusion from SD has mentioned what will happen if items then sell for more than £10...

....eg., I've sold a few decal sheets for models with start prices of £5.99-£7.99 that ended up from x5 to x10 that amount...

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"I'm wondering if it is the operating system as my husband insists on us using Linux"

When I did it as posted above, I used Firefox and it worked fine, I could save a jpg.  I've just tried again using Chrome and it would only save as a webp.  I don't know Linux, but can you use the Firefox browser on Linux and see if that works.  Alternatively can you find an internet cafe or library where you can log on to a standard PC and download on to a transfer disk.

PS.  I posted solutions to your problem before I read your subsequent posts and realised you'd solved the problem.  Still, maybe it might help someone else!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I asked this last week. See post number 41. Maybe there will be an update on there at some point.
