AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

What can they say?
"Everything's working perfectly" so it's staying as it is. Neither is true.
"Sorry, it was all a mistake and we've reverted back to "Sane Delivery". Not going to happen, but think of the chaos if they did.
"Get on with it or get lost". True, but ebay hasn't ever been noted for clear or truthful announcements.
If ebay did say anything, all it would be is more waffle, half-truth and smoke and mirrors marketing-speak..

THE APRIL 15th SONG
to the tune of I'll Never Fall in Love Again.
What do you get
When your sales have gone
Cos ebay has screwed
Your delivery options
And imposd fees that buyers add on
I'll never hear kerching again
I'll never hear kerching again.

Now if all those 110909 people pulled their listings - oh why can't people work together - can you imagine if every single personal seller pulled their listings today!

Unfortunately I think that's true. What they *should* do to try to retrieve what's left of their customers' trust and goodwill (if they haven't lost it forever) is to apologise, admit they got it wrong, not make SD compulsory and give people back their own choice of carrier. They may have to compensate Royal Mail and Evri if there are contractual implications, but they should take the hit. I'd be the first to give them credit if they apologised and admitted they'd got it wrong, but it will never happen.

I think I'm right in saying that one site did exactly that and returned to what they had before because of resistance from sellers and the number of lost listings they sustained.

"I don't see how they can say that if you pay more to promote your listings that you will have more exposure and be pushed up the list ,if 1000 people say decided to pay the extra to have their listings promoted who gets to be at the top of the so called list ? they can't all be at the top . It strikes me as another con from ebay."
Exactly. And as a buyer, I don't want skewed search results. I want the search results to be based on genuine descriptions. The search results are so frustrating now. It's yet another way in which ebay has tampered with what used to be a good system and is now yet another annoyance.

Tried to stay upbeat about it all and figure it out, but after selling 4 items somewhere else, all within a few days of listing them it's becoming increasingly harder to stay upbeat.
Can juggle the numbers with the BFP but just can't seem to get the postage to look reasonable, it just looks to expensive. I got a item coming up that's going to show £10.55 for postage when it should be £6 odd. That's just not fair on the buyer or the seller if the seller tries to take the hit on some of that postage cost.
Imagine it might sort itself out over the next 6 months or so but for the time being thinking of just writing out a few drafts and letting them sit there ready to go.

Well its the 15th and ebay has not changed my listings to simple delivery and I can still list using the advanced postage option to avoid using it.

Hasn't SD been around since February?

"I note that apparently sellers cannot receive bad feedback in the future, someone comment on that if you can because how they be right, happy to be corrected"
As I understand it, sellers will be automatically given 100% feedback once the item is delivered. Within the subsequent week, it can be altered by the buyer. Not sure how that is going to work, because don't you have to wait a week if you want to give negative or neutral feedback? It's putting pressure on the buyer to get the timing exactly right, and who wants that pressure. It's a way of manipulating everybody getting 100% feedback, so it becomes even more useless than they've already made it.

"An interesting statistic- this post has been viewed 110909 times "
And 231 have marked it as Helpful - much more than most posts

Yep, if everybody is 'promoted' then nobody is.....rather like an airline selling all passengers 'priority boarding'.
They're not all going to get on quicker are they?......
(I think a comedy programme put this idea out sometime ago; ebay's 'innovation team' used it as inspiration!....😂)

Continuing with my snap-shots of one of my Saved Searches, trying to get a feel for how the recent changes have affected listings and sales.
Yesterday live listings increased by 16 without the correct number of Newly Listed items. I guessed ebay revealed some of its un-sponsored and hidden listings to bolster the numbers. Total live listings increased from 175 to 193.
Today, with only 4 sales yesterday (3 business. 1 private) the live listings have fallen back to 178. Perhaps a seller's listings auto-renewed and were then deleted? The numbers just don't add up?
My trust in ebay's search results is zero. All I can see is that businesses are seeing a small improvement in sales, private seller's sales have decreased slightly (and are achieving lower prices at auction). What happens to the businesses when the 'bargains' start to run out?
15-04-2025 10:15 AM
I have never come across an organisation which has so much contempt and disregard for its loyal client base as ebay.
They truly do not give a hoot about private sellers baling out in their thousands.
If anyone else, in any trade or industry, treated their customers this way they would go bust almost instantly. Presumably they must have more mugs signing up every day than they are losing.
Small business sellers may be feeling smug at the moment but they'll be coming for you only too soon. Beware for whom the bell tolls, lest it tolls for you.
15-04-2025 10:15 AM
Wow, I don't know who that was but all credit to them.
15-04-2025 10:17 AM
Yes, but you could opt out. It's mandatory from today.

Only if you're leaving a neg for certain high-volume or favoured sellers.
General hoi-polloi sellers can be dumped on immediately.......
(I got a neg 30 minutes after my buyer's Special Delivery parcel arrived : and that was asking for a return! -ebay left it there as it was the 'buyers opinion' 🙄)
15-04-2025 10:23 AM
Yep, I've pulled all my auctions and my buying is down. The business sellers I've frequented for decades have now had the last purchases from me. If everybody did similar eBay will soon reverse these unfair, greedy policies targeting private sellers/buyers.
15-04-2025 10:37 AM
If I'm not selling, then I'm not buying. I used to buy on behalf of a couple of family members as well, but I've told them that I'm not doing it for them either. I've used alternative sites for the last couple of weeks, and - shock - I've actually bought a book from a bookshop! It was a lovely little independent shop, and I'll be buying books from them in future.
