NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

'I sell over 30 items or over the minimum £ threshold I may have to. So technically I MAYBE liable for UK tax'

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If it's your own 'old toot' you won't be liable for any tax. 😊

There is no limit to the amount of money you get from selling your own personal possessions.

Unless you make a sale for one item (or collection of items like a stamp or coin collection) for over £6000. That would bring you into Capital Gains territory. (but a 6 grand sale on ebay!!  😲 way too scary for most of us 😱)

The 30 items or £1750 limit is just the point at which ebay send the details to HMRC, and if it's all you own stuff, regardless of amount, HMRC won't do anything *with* that info. You'll be fine.

HMRC's computers are just looking out for accounts where the income (no matter how small or large) all seems strangely to come from mulitple 'brand new' items/consumable items or other things that are not possible to be used or second hand/'pre-loved'/inherited etc.

This is not about 'semantics' ; it's about whether or not you need to be scared of HMRC. And if it's your own possessions, you *don't*.......

While it's tempting to remove my 350+ listings on the 15th, the only change I'll currently be making will be removal of Free Postage.

Hasn't SD already been applied to existing eligible listings? 7th April was for existing and 15th April was for new. Which seems a completely backwards rollout plan to me.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Do you really think we have any confidence in ebay systems at present? The search algorithm is so broken its practically useless, the listing process takes a lot longer than necessary,  why was the old edit item specifics changed to this totally impractical delete refill and resubmit model. Ot takes 3 times longer to complete a new listing from a  existing template. If I'm spending more time either looking for items or listing items that's time ebay is loosing to sales and overall revenue.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I had 2 sales come through last night (same buyer) that I was able to ship this morning (combined) via Hermes and I paid shipping.

Just had one come through now a cassette tape via GSP and thankfully they've paid £1.55 delivery. Usually I'd just Evri it because of the gobbledygook REF: numbers/my poor hand writing. So yes it looks like changes are afoot. Although they shouldn't have been able to select RM as an option as I removed it from my settings last night.

Sorry buyers...it's goodbye Free Delivery

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I listed a pair of deck chairs at the weekend during this wonderful warm weather we're having. Appropriately priced, SEO optimised, bright, clear vibrant photos and description. 3 views in 5 days...says it all really

Yet looking at completed items, someone who used a potato for a camera with no SEO and limited description sold something similar for 3x as much.

'Do you really think we have any confidence in ebay systems at present?'

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Nope, of course not !..... ebay is a right ol' pile of pants at the moment 😆

I've given up listing anything at all.  (And that will probably be forever: unless the inconcievable happens and ebay give up on S.D.)

But ebay's rolling bin-fire doesn't affect HMRC's computer systems.

And they're the ones to be scared of... *but only if you need to be*.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

BIN is available on all membership packages but at different costs depending on the package, that's why I always advise anyone thinking about joining to read all the different packages before making up their mind.

I've never paid their up-front fee, never opened a shop, am a Silver level seller and have never had a bid on an auction.  I only use them to move new items up through P.1 of the search results and draw some attention.  All my sales have come from lower pages of RUS / GTC ads..  Indeed, if you want your ads. uploaded to google shopping you must have a BIN price.

I use Platinum Listings @ 5p each + 5% FVF which gives me more photos, thumb-nail in the search results and PP integrated checkout (with the PP fee on the transfer).

Effectively I'm getting everything I want to use from the Platinum Level without paying the £70 up front fee, but on a Pay-As-You-Go basis, (everything apart from the free listings/re-lists and free shops that I have no use for).

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Not sure if to pull all my Mags , or just to up the price to say £ 100 just to keep them on the system to keep a presence and see what happens  with a note saying what is happening ?. Or just to end them all for the max before the listings disappear, what are others doing ?.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Only started putting things on eBay again around a week ago but just going to carry on listing stuff.

Just going to take into account the buyers fee and take the hit, but took fees into account last time.

Postage hasn't changed much except it looks more expensive and iv always weighed and measured parcels to make sure the postage price was right and either arranged pickup or walked to post office.

But am just trying to clear some stuff before selling the house.

Will rethink things though if I'm forced to use Evri.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

It's no good the SD if you get to parcel drop of shop and they can't take your parcels because there is no paper to print the labels and the receipts , Why  have Evri not prepared for this ,ebay pushing evri on people and then you can't post the parcel because the 1 evri parcel drop off shop in the town has no paper , really helping sellers isn't it !.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Beware the estimated postage prices, the small parcel option bears no relation to realty.

RM upto 2Kg is 160 x 350 x 450mm. And ebay shows all small parcels as medium parcel sizes and weights.

There's no option in Firefox to manually add your actual parcel dimensions.

So there is so much guess work going on with SD it's not even fit for purpose, or are we all beta testers now?

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Actually it's never been any good for auctions due to the fact that very few people were aware of the site so it didn't get many visitors. So most listings are "fixed price or make an offer"  instead of auctions, and sellers listing auctions set the opening price at the minimum they will sell for.

A large influx of infuriated ebay ex-customers will probably make auctions viable there, but not for a while.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 14 YEARS.

Thank-you eBay team for placing another reason why selling on eBay is not worth the hassle. When is a private seller become a business seller? When eBay come up with another turn to extract additional funds. There must be a team in the background thinking up ways to make life difficult for private sellers. Remember the good old days, If it ain't broke don't fix it

As for the revised compulsory postal option
