AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Question: For those of you who have already had some of your listings automatically switched to SD by eBay, please could you confirm whether items with open offers or existings bids were also switched.
Like most of you I also plan to stop selling on 15 April. My listings have not been switched to SD yet and I don't want to get caught out with any of them switching just before they are purchased.
I have read this thread from beginning to end and would like to thank everyone for all the knowledge and infromation shared. 👍

I have no idea, especialy galling when the only reason I am selling unwanted items is so I can put a bit of food on the table, that 20 pounds would have fed my family for a week!

This is what I'm hoping to avoid too, been checking my listings regularly and so far they look the same to me, although I'm not sure what will look different if they are converted to simple delivery.

If I were you I’d get onto live chat about it
when you get the robot just type in agent and it should connect you
if you don’t succeed with one agent try again with another
tell them you’ve been charged for labels that will never be used and it’s come out of your pocket
don’t know what else to suggest
anyone else got any helpful advice ?

It will say standard Mail or express mail if it’s SD
plus any funny postage price you don’t normally use

You could always create a dummy listing to see how it looks.

Thank you, my listings are 'free delivery' but will the buyer still see 'standard' and 'express' and ebay just bill me whichever one they choose?
08-04-2025 9:19 PM
They could always phone CS and say they want contact with a manager.

Thanks @wintersdawn1
If open offers or existings bids 'lock' elements of the listing (as it does for the seller when revising) then that logic could be applied to eBay making updates themselves. They could even update the moment the listing ends. It's a massive unknown and, like you, I'll just keep looking!

I wouldn't be surprised if ebay can still infiltrate listings with offers/bids and force their simple delivery onto them.
08-04-2025 9:28 PM
I agree. I'm sure they'd make sure they had access to listings.

I would forward your issue to eve.williams@ebay.com and cc watchdog@bbc.co.uk or any other consumer orientated media set-up that has an email address .
If enough people use the same when they have a genuine complaint like there is fair chance it will get national coverage
Given how many flaws and bugs "simple delivery" has I am genuinely surprised Ebay have used it as an excuse to take a backwards step to avoid the relentless barrage of flak.
When Ebay informs the seller has been paid ( or the buyer has made a payment) , are they confirming the postage method Simple Delivery and who the courier is , has the buyer selected postage etc etc .
The only advice is simply don't sell anything until Ebay sort out this mess , cancel all live listing , any with bids contact the bidders and explain why .
I very much doubt that what Ebay are actually doing in practice conforms to consumer law . Its what they actually do that counts not what their overpaid or underpaid lawyers have told them to say or how how they have named their dysfunctional policies
I am so glad the last item I sold was 25th Feb

Great post. I think there are a lot of users that would enjoy seeing coverage of things.
08-04-2025 9:58 PM
re express , if a buyer chooses it yes you’ll be billed for it
When you list an item it says buyer will see prices starting from…and then buyer chooses first class , second class , next day? and whatever evri equivalent to that is
I don’t think you have a say what they chose so doing free post can get expensive
08-04-2025 10:00 PM
If they choose the most expensive option Just cancel the sale.
08-04-2025 10:00 PM
Thanks, I've deselected evri and so ebay will charge the buyer more to only be offered royal mail, so assume it will be a choice of two royal mail services.

Still a pita though, that shouldn't be necessary.
