NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Buyers on eBay should be warned about changes from 15 April:

" due to eBay providing the pre-paid labels to your sellers the fee for postage with Royal Mail will increase with 20%."

Buyers will select from two speeds of delivery with different costs.  They won't know the carrier, and unless they look later,  they won't know that carrier's basic rate.

When I buy from other online sites I do not expect to pay the retail price for delivery, I expect to pay what the site says delivery will cost.

There is no point in comparing what RM would charge if you bought from them, and what ebay SD costs.  In exactly the same way that many sellers before SD charged over the 'stamp price', it doesn't have to be the same as it cost them.

Ebay has chosen £X as the postage cost, buyers will accept that when they buy.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Except "buyers" are not some dumb creatures who can be kept in the dark. We're in 2025, not 1975. People are generally far more savvy on the whole and are wise to manipulation.

Your line "Ebay has chosen £X as the postage cost, buyers will accept that when they buy" makes it sound like you think "buyers" will just roll over and be dictated to regardless. You can say "there is no point comparing what RM would charge if you bought from them, and what ebay costs.... etc." But we will decide whether we think there is a point. There is a reason why this is getting interest from the national newspapers. There's a reason why there are so many comments on this and other attempts to pull the wool over people's eyes. Your stance is always pro-eBay rather than being pro-Buyer. I wonder why that is.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

As a buyer if the postage looks reasonable I'll buy the item and sometimes be willing to pay higher postage if its an item I really want or is rare.

As a seller, being aware of the postage cost direct to RM, if ebay makes the postage higher than that (and consequently this increases the overall price of my item) I will not be happy.  I have already reduced my prices because of the bogus BPF, I don't want to reduce my prices further because ebay is charging higher postage to the buyer.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

How about eBay giving a percentage of the postage price they are charging to the seller to cover the cost of packaging materials.  You cannot buy record mailers and stiffeners from any discount outlet shop.  You cannot buy 4 or 5 of them for a quid.

I opted out of EVRI due to my out of area location, no drop off shop for me unless I go with parcels to a location on the mainland with a ferry. No way.

Only choice for me: Royal Mail and will be 20 % more expensive.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

tracking, the cost is £3.25.

Here's a breakdown:

  • Standard 2nd Class Large Letter (under 100g): £1.55 •
  • 2nd Class Signed For (includes tracking): £2.55
  • Total Cost (2nd Class Large Letter + Signed For): £1.55 + £2.55 =
    £3.25
  •
  • Above is an example we found for sending lower value items with ‘simple delivery’. It would cost us £1.70 more per item as we never needed tracking anyway and never had a problem.   Free Proof of posting is available if you can get to a Post Office and can be claimed if the item is not received.  We didn’t use that either, just posted in the nearest collection box.  After paying for materials to hand make we would be selling at a loss.  We list postage free and send in padded envelope. We have been advised to lower to £9.99 NOT £10 for under 100g items and should be able to use custom postage.  They still make money on the added Customer protection fee.  Here’s hoping the custom postage will be accepted and work. We have ended all higher priced listings and revised all other listings choosing the Custom postage rather than the Simple Delivery Both options are now available.
  • We have also found sellers we use have their own websites so buying through eBay will now be very limited on principle.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

BPF is a farce because I would be covered if a seller sent something by RM 48hr tracked and with SD being compulsory its more expensive than a seller using RM online to buy their postage so how can either of these new things be a benefit to private buyers and sellers. It's all so very wrong.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

If you purchased a  normal  2nd class through Ebay although not strictly tracked , it has a unique reference number  to prove delivery  and when delivered it will update the status on the listing to delivered so you don't need to by tracked postage for under £20 items as you covered by RM compensation . You can't track its status via but technically is trackable .  So being forced to pay RM48 is a rip off if the value is less than £20

Until I stopped selling I just sent everything RM48 it just made arranging collection so much easier .

I have even bought RM48 at a post office and on the receipt you don't get what you think is tracking number you just get the same format code as used on the above . With unique ids on labels and stamps there is no reason RM can' actually track everything

The other thing that forced my down the RM48 routes was 2nd class signed for no loner carried compensations up to £50  only £20 so really not worth it as it cost more as well

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Not if they've got any sense. Like I said earlier why should I buy a label from a middle man who has made something compulsory that ends up being more expensive than me paying the carrier of my choice directly and who will stop me dealing with the carrier of my choice. Middle men are only in it for one thing and that's to make money.

Same here. It's worth watching to see how they carry on saying these changes benefit private sellers and buyers

That's because when you buy from an online retailer (or an ebay seller under the old system) their p&p cost might reasonably include whatever packaging and transport costs they incur before it gets to the carrier.

Ebay are a second hand market place and are basically doing nothing other than reselling RM in this situation so the notable difference between their RM+ rate and the actual RM rate is essentially an hidden market place charge on buyers (and sellers who offer free postage).

That's just an unfortunate by-product of their real mission to make things simpler....
