NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

Hopefully and eventually the will and common sense of the many will be greater than the will and lack of common sense of the few.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

Used to buy on EBay pretty much most of the time I needed something, bought my bubblewrap, mailing bags and stuff for my garden/home/personal, all my listings end soon, I won’t be buying on there again either.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

BPF, what a joke, that was in place anyway. Once that began in earnest the way it is now so many people gave up buying on EBay. Yes they tell us how marvellous it is, same as they are saying how totally marvellous this SD is, they always break something that doesn’t need fixing! I did think the other day I would carry on with them but delved a bit deeper. Where is the 2-5 medium parcel option from Royal Mail, gone! All there is now is an option for me to charge a buyer over £10 for a medium parcel (used to be less then half that price). If I could use the RM website NOT through EBay I could still have sent at less than half the price that EBay now want, buyers are not stupid, who want to pay double the postage if they don’t have to!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I think you have already answered your last question! Everyone needs to read the terms and conditions of prohibited items, if you send by Evri vis their website your items which are fragile, glass, ceramic etc are NOT covered for loss or damage. How is that going to change by using SD, it is NOT!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I never send by Evri, useless! I also try to establish first from sellers who they use and if it’s Evri I say that if they can’t use someone else I won’t buy from them. I have had buyers say to me ‘please don’t use Evri, my parcels keep getting lost or broken’.  Says it all.

I hope sellers see sense and leave, I am off on 12 April, lost faith, lost any trust I had. BTF and now SD have killed it for me, there is are only so many straws one can carry!

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

So where are the vigilantes who were always happy to repeat the same message over and over when they were being disadvantaged by ebay?

They were never bothered by saying the same thing repeatedly when they were losing money and crying crocodile tears over buyers having their rights removed.

I've seen one post saying ebay is now throwing the baby out with the bath water.  It makes their previous protestations of how much they supported genuine private sellers and their valuable contributions to ebay sound so hollow.

It makes me think they've got what they really wanted, another cull of private sellers and a further reduction in any competition they might face.

I do hope it comes back to haunt them and ebay.  Keep taking down those listings folks.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

What I would suggest is people try to  create some trial listing to see what obvious issues you can expose as best way to delay this fiasco is identify obvious bugs  and tell Ebay .

I think there are likely to be size with dimensions and weight and size . If for example Ebay send you a label for a courier where it exceeds the limits of that courier and you have specified correctly , then that is Ebay's  problem to resolve and to pay the excess etc, suggesting going to another drop of point is pathetic .

Best advice any problems just cancel the sale and apologise to the buyer , its not if you have been paid by Ebay.

With the listing I created using a previous listing as a template it would let me edit the dimensions

I think they may also be work arounds by just setting the dimensions wrong  .

It would be interesting to know if you do have an exception what list of couriers do you get or do you just have to go to that couriers sight.

It is quite obvious looking at the  some of the simplistic marketing style  wording there are going to be holes .

I have been to a boot fair this morning and I had a couple of chats about Ebay , lets just say the comments were extremely negative and this is the hot topic.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The problem with low value under £10 is it will incur a "Buyer protection" fee of £1.15  and it only goes 4p for very £1 less  so unless you are selling something  special its not going to sell , regardless if you can chose the postage .

A good old fashioned 99p starting bid is advertised to the buyer as £1.78 starting bit , you automatically start putting off bidders .  That's an 80% if it only goes for the initial bid .

I would like to think Simple Seller and Buyer Protection was not a an EVIL plan   stop private sellers , but that is precisely what is doing  .

That's interesting .

It's good to know that this is being discussed away from these boards.

(I've long been convinved that here on the boards we are all talking to ourselves, preaching to the converted and that a huge percentage of ebay sellers don't even know the forums are here.

Let alone the general buying public!

But then I've long been convinced that ebay weren't  quite so un-caring about their users as they are now proving to be; I'm having to own myself wrong about a lot of ebay related shyte at the moment😒)

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I have made some draft listings, one problem I see is the value of the item. I listed an item with a buy it now (hypothetical) price of  £700 and it still quotes the standard £3 odd, though it needs to be sent as special delivery at about £12. Can't see a way of changing it, only by changing the weight will the price change, but even then, although the buyer may pay more, there is no insurance on the item.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

The comments here are tame compared to Reddit and trustpilot.
It is about time the feeBay money grabbers actually stopped tu#d polishing and fixed the basics.

They will probably come for business sellers next as they will see them as another income stream…….watch this space.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

"

  • Our size picker tool predicts the size and weight of your item: Rest assured that if your parcel exceeds the maximum size and weight of the label, you will not be charged additional costs, provided you listed using our recommended size and weight."

How does this work for plants? I don't even know how big a parcel will be until I've already packed it, and it can vary greatly depending how many plants one person has bought. Not to mention that a dormant plant in winter can be 10% the size of a fully grown one in summer.

Although, this is all moot because I just sell on Facebook now since the stupid 4% tax came in.

Re: NO LONGER SELLING DUE TO SIMPLE DELIVERY

I'm just totally confused by it all tbh lol. I'm not very tech savvy and so it sounds like on the 12th ( I thought it was the 15th it all changes ) looks like I'll definitely be gone. I start alot of my items at .99p to get some interest ( it used to work alot of the time not so much now!! ) but I stuck around to see what happened but with this sd I don't think I'll be able to as it all sounds too complicated. I start an auction .99p put in my own amount of postage I need to charge ( always above what RM charge to cover cost of bags, and petrol and such ) id go off to post office, give parcel to man/woman at PO, they weigh them, they put the label on, I get the tracking number from them, then put that in later, job done. With what I'm reading on here, it's going to be far too difficult and possibly too risky for me to chance that I'm not putting the correct info so I guess that's it for me for def. I dont have a printer and not good with QR codes. Could you please confirm, should I make sure that my last item be sold and posted by the 11th ( as your saying the 12th ) I'm just so over all this now. Tia 🙏🏼

New laws set to ban mandatory hidden fees from online shopping, saving money for consumers - GOV.UK

Very interesting I wonder if Ebay and Evri did collude to  bump up the price consumers pay f or RM postage?

I expect the CMA would have the power to force these companies to disclose all the meetings and emails relevant to setting up the SD monstrosity.

There are so many angles on SD everyone who cares should pick their favourite and report it to the CMA.

This could turn into a full blown forensic investigation of how certain unethical individuals working at these companies had the intent and took action to harm consumers, damage competition and apply hidden fees.
