AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

That's me done. Just removed all 125 listings. I'll wait a few months and see how this SD fiasco pans out and have a look at other possible marketplaces.
If eBay sort out their mess I might bring some listings back, possibly listed for overeseas sales only where the benefits of GSP and easy international payments might make it worth while (about 30% of my electronic component sales are international).

I know but she only has so many underlings , even if they do get passed on it doesn't go unnoticed .
They need understand it not just case of not wanting to sell because of Simple delivery its a a case of basic Seller protection .
Ebay need to ensure that before you dispatch that all details are 100% correct because if not you as a seller will not receive your money because Ebay won't pay you as the package has not been delivered .

"Please everyone on this post email eve.williams@ebay.com in the vain hope she might understand what a can of worms this really is . "
I would if I thought it would do any good, but I don't think it will make a scrap of difference. The reply (from a delegated staff member) to someone who has already done that just looked like a standard reply telling us how good it all is. If Eve Williams wants to understand what a can of worms this is, she could go to the trouble of spending some time reading these forums. Heck, she could even summon up the courage to come on here and talk with us. But I won't hold my breath.
Nevertheless, if anyone does write to her, please do post the response on here.

When I ended some listings a few days ago, I clicked the button that said "Tell us what you think", and I thought it then asked the question "Why are you ending the listing" (or words to that effect). I've just gone to end a few more listings before the 7th, and the question was "How can we improve the End Listing experience for you? (optional)". Have they really stopped wanting to understand why we're ending a listing or is my memory deceiving me?

She’s only gonna do what she’s told to do by her higher ups

I sent a email to both and neither bounced back but as I expected not a sniff of a response.

Now that really doesn't surprise me. But I wouldn't class either as high end attractions for buyers or sellers

It is painful to say the least , the current communication stance is not doing Ebay any favours as they are simply are not addressing valid concerns and are really just re-iterating a poorly thought out marketing strategy . This is not how you deal with valid customer concerns
At some stage she is going to have to make some kind of statement and not just re-iterate the marketing blurb. The problem is simply not going away and there are still 10 days to go .
A fact she can not escape is "Free to Sell" ebay is more costly than the old pay to sell Ebay and that is why the Ebay platform is failing to deliver what she probably promised her bosses. Not only is buyer protection more costly it puts people of bidding and is stifling business. Vinted can get probably get away with that as a model as it always been like that , but Vinted is not Ebay !
If nothing happens before April the 15th and Simple delivery is imposed things will only get worse for Ebay Uk as business and at some stage if some has any sense someone within Ebay they will have to intervene .

Great post and very true. I really think they are riding it out thinking all this will blow over but it's bound to come back with a vengeance from the 15th onwards.

Agreed re ebay copying Vinted with BPF, it is a change that goes against the culture of what ebay was and as such too much of a change.
Hopefully heads will roll when their turnover falls as that is the only thing they will take notice of, then the sackings can start and get someone else in charge to make things better.

Well when I looked earlier the share price was still falling.
05-04-2025 1:02 AM
Well maybe one reason for the no communication regarding this could be the realisation that making such unpopular changes in the UK when there's still a cost of living crisis and with the overseas president introducing tariffs that many analysts fear will cause a trade war has got them thinking a lot.

Yes,you are bang on,it won't make any difference what we say,or what we do,in terms of ending accounts /listings ,or kicking off at them.
They have decided the private guys and girls are either going to pay them a grossly inflated fee,or leave.
In their universe, they think they will just continue scamming those that stay, thinking there will be enough of them left ,or some/enough more new ones they can deceive for now,to make up their shortfall in their revenue.
That's never worked before, and of course won't now,but that point is totally missed or ignored by ebays pathetic management.
In the meantime, they either want to derive a huge increase in revenue from the private people,or,they want them gone,as they have decided that's a good idea.
The nonsense 'free to sell' scam, was just to attempt to improve the weather for you ,so it's nice and sunny when they shoot you in the back....

"get someone else in charge to make things better."
Personally I don't think that's going to happen, and they'd have to roll back a lot more than just Simple Delivery to make things better in my eyes. Still, no harm in wearing one of these....

They have made the wrong decisions at the wrong time and really have lost touch with normal people in the UK when with better planning they could rake in even more. With the cost of living crisis and with utility bills and everything else going up most normal people now have even less disposable income. This platform like it used to be would be thriving but it's not.

Thanks for the upvote,appreciated,ta.
Going to add my 2c again 😞
Correct me please, but to my thinking,if lots of people leave, they will pat themselves on their overpaid backs for having done such a good job ?
All these people we no longer charge,so who are now worthless to us,but of course we deliberately made them like that last year,so haha, they've left,we've won ?
My take on it...am I right ?
05-04-2025 1:32 AM
You are right. But like someone posted earlier free to sell is more expensive than when we had seller fees because of SD. BPF is a extra stealth charge for buyers. It's only these recent changes that have led to private sellers selling less and buyers buying less that means they aren't making enough as they'd like but I don't believe for a instance that they'll blame themselves.

"Correct me please, but to my thinking,if lots of people leave, they will pat themselves on their overpaid backs for having done such a good job ?"
Exactly. They don't want people like us here, the people who were with ebay from the early days when they were happy for people to sell low-value items. I don't know why they don't split the site into two and have one site go back to what it used to be. Probably because it's too labour intensive to deal with lots of low-value sellers, buyers and items in relation to the profit generated, although you'd think AI would go some way to overcoming that hurdle.
05-04-2025 1:34 AM
I received a message from ebay about the BPF as a seller, not as a buyer, probably because it wasn't good news and so they tried to slide it past buyers, proof of this is the way they have hidden the BPF at checkout, not where it should be at the top right that shows item price and postage but in small letters/numbers way down on the left.
The buyers already had the 30 day money back guarantee, the BPF is just a greed tax.

It's all sad the to read, logging off myself on Sunday night.
