AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.

I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

We can only hope they've been keeping a close eye on what's happening here but the promising part is it's a big move by them to start a whole collectible section which I'm sure a lot of private sellers will give a try.

How shipping works

 

The buyer pays for shipping

The shipping expenses are added to the item’s price and are shown in the total sum of the buyer’s order at the checkout. Shipping rates depend on the parcel’s size and both the buyer’s and the seller’s locations.

When you sell an item, you’ll get a prepaid V-generated shipping label in your email and V inbox.

The buyer decides how you should ship

When the buyer presses the Buy now button to purchase your item, they will select the shipping provider you should send the item with. Please respect their choice, otherwise the order will be cancelled, and the buyer will be refunded.

V cannot track the parcel if it was sent with a different shipping provider than indicated in the order details.

Managing your shipping options

Sellers can select different shipping options in their postage settings. The shipping options you can select depend on your location — the more options you use, the higher your chances of selling! You can learn more about managing your shipping options.

5 days to send the item

You’ll have 5 business days to send the item. If you miss this deadline, we’ll have no choice but to cancel the order.

If you can’t send the order in time, you can ask the buyer to agree on extending the shipping deadline by 3 or 5 additional business days. The buyer can accept or decline ...

The only positives in that case would be if their charges worked out cheaper and if a seller could choose their own postal carrier. Otherwise like you've said it will just mean moving the goal posts.

So the only real difference is that it's not totally compulsory. Especially if a seller only offers say RM as the postal option.

Thanks for that, very helpful.  I briefly looked at the RM info as that was what I like to use and always arranged collection at home with RM bringing the label too.  I don't have a printer you see and it seems from their blurb that using RM as the carrier means having to bring the item somewhere to both print a label and dispatch it.  Is that so?

The only possible positive is that because of what's happening here they will look at their own practices regarding shipping.

I have spent a whole afternoon trying to understand S.D. I sold a mug - and S.D. decided that it would be sent by Evri - Evri don't insure china against breakages......Online chat said that they'd get back to me in 48 hours! Unlike Royal Mail, who will collet from my home. Evri involves a car journey. NOT happyy!

Just another big example of SD not knowing the best option for a seller. So much for the name Simple Delivery. It is far from being simple or being seller friendly.

I absolutely dread the mess and absolute headache 😱 it will become when they start altering all live listings from the 7th. Sellers will need headache relief tablets by their side.

I've just scheduled some Time Away from the 6th to see how things go.  I'll look at my listings and see whether stuff changes during that period.  I'm expecting it to as I don't imagine being on Time Away as some kind of shield or workaround.

It really become such a mess. They'll need to definitely recruit more customer service agents on temporary contracts until real sense can be made of it.

Just read a thread about ebay having got chinese goods in warehouses in the US they must have been worried about trumps tarriffs  .................Predictably, analysts raised questions about eBay's exposure to looming tariff and de minimis changes and Iannone sought to quell those concerns by explaining most of eBay's inventory from China is "forward deployed", meaning it is in US warehouses.

Its so depressing that all this mess that ebay have and will create for everyone who uses their platform is down to one thing - their relentless greed.  They don't care who has to suffer as a result because all they care about is money.

Both buyers and sellers are and will suffer for ebay's greed if they continue to use their platform and each has to decide at what point they say 'enough'.  Ebay have hi-jacked private sellers listings, once to add the bogus Buyer Protection Fee, they will hi-jack them again starting from the 7th April to convert them to simple delivery, in their quest to control all postage, making sure the majority of postage labels from now on will be purchased through them so they can make money on each postage label purchased.

I'm really hoping lots of post offices do not go along with the supposed agreement they have between themselves and ebay to accept marketplace stamped postage labels that are wrong due to ebay's shoddy AI.
