AS OF 15TH APRIL MY DAYS AS A PRIVATE EBAY SELLER WILL STOP AFTER 19 YEARS.
I AM FED UP OF THE GREED OF EBAY AND I HOPE OTHER EBAY SELLERS DECIDE TO NO LONGER LET THE EBAY CONTROL FREAKS HAVE THIS MUCH CONTROL OVER PRIVATE SELLERS.

I also think this is crazy. As I'm a private seller I'm happy if I get back what I paid for a item especially if it is still sealed and unused. None of my Signed items are high value and that's why I was happy sending sending items using RM and only needing large padded envelopes. This has become such a nightmare and mess that I'll no longer worry about selling on ebay after 6th.

Someone from ebay said this about low value items:

I won't be selling either. They keep moving the goal posts and there's nothing you can do about it. Depressing

I'm so glad you confirmed what I was told. As my items are over 100g and some are over £10 that is of no use to me so no more selling after the 6th.

Same, i just removed all my open listings. As i don't have a printer i;'d have to take my item to a drop off shop/place with the QR code - i can't leave my house so can no longer just arrange royal mail to pick up the next day with a copy of the label. so disappointed

I'm in exactly the same situation. Really shows how unscrupulous they are and have no concerns about the very people who helped get them to where they are today. Our loss is also ebays loss when they crunch the numbers about how many private sellers they have and will lose.

there will be workarounds when it all gets going
have you not seen the matrix and how they avoid the bots or whatever they were called can’t remember now
then again you wonder if it’s worth the time and hassle

Love that trilogy. Private sellers like ourselves might lose out initially but so will ebay eventually.

Thanks for getting clarification on what qualifies for a low cost/ low weight item. My friend who sells papercraft items (usually under £3 , and under 100gms), has asked me to check if the 30 items per annum still applies to these low cost goods? If she sells her maximum allowance of 30 items the amount will only come to around £90, a huge difference from the maximum cash value allowed ( around £1,740 ?) doesn’t seem to make much sense.?
Myself, I will be closing my account within the next few days as “ simple postage” is far too complicated for me, I’m old- school and like to make my own choices.

Unless you are a private seller who sells things for less than £10 and less than 100g then Simple Delivery will become compulsory. For now private sellers have to do it the ebay way or remove listings if they don't agree. But then again there could be future changes to the ebay policies.

'If ebay wants private sellers out now, just say it.'
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm starting to believe that they do actually want to get rid of private sellers. (I've been giving ebay the benefit of the doubt for weeks now...but I think I've been wrong)
The CEO wants ebay to become a 'high-end and luxury goods' place (!)
Well, private sellers selling all manner of second-hand/pre-loved/call-it-what-you-will stuff doesn't say high-end luxury to anybody, does it?!
But they can't just tell private sellers to s*d off. The resulting bad press would be enormous.....
'Big, Evil Ebay taking away the opportunity for Poverty Stricken Pensioners to be able to flog off their possessions in order to pay the electricity bill'. (A definite Daily Mail headline for that eventuality!)
So they're trying something called 'Constructive Dismissal'.
(This is a method used by a company to get somebody to leave ,when the company is unable to sack them because they've not actually done anything wrong...)
It works by making life so flippin' awkward and difficult the employee leaves, rather than put up with it for any longer .
Then the company can say, in all innocence, ' Nothing to do with us guv; he left of his own accord.' 😶
And this particular way of 'making life really awkward' is also making them money so that's the way they're going to do it.....

Also you can opt out of SD and set your own postage for
restricted /prohibited items by any evri or Royal Mail
items that are larger or heavier than ebays maximums
items that need authenticity verification
how you do it is not clear yet
are they going to have the toggle for custom postage or another way
we’ll see

Absolutely love your post. I haven't always agreed with your defensive ebay posts but stooping this low and being so unscrupulous is lower than even I thought ebay would resort to.

There aren't many items that come under 100g... Even a postcard with a card 'stiffener' could just be over the 100g weight by a couple of gms. How about if your item weighs 200gms Royal Mails cost for posting this item at present is £2.10....
31-03-2025 11:01 PM
I dread to think of the options they will come up with.
31-03-2025 11:06 PM
And how many sellers come under that criteria??? 100gms ???
31-03-2025 11:07 PM
I do 10 standard postcards as 100g letter with card packed 5 side by side
31-03-2025 11:08 PM
I wanted to give you kudos but looks like I've reached my daily limit. But judging by SD becoming compulsory for that weight then it looks like choosing from the options you are given.

True, ebay will not give any genuine concessions just ones they know won't be of much use to most sellers so for the most part they can carry on making the money their dirty, grasping hands crave.
