Mobile number

So for the past maybe year now I’ve been recieving calls from people hoping to speak with eBay. I’ve never sold on eBay or interacted with anyone. For some reason my mobile number is down as eBay on Google maps and Siri. So for someone to say “hey Siri call eBay” it will call myself. What do I do and how can I get this sorted.

Change your mobile number? It may be the easiest solution.

eBay's phone contact number isn't a mobile one, so that's really odd.

As advised by @cobwebcottage , you'd be better off changing your mobile number, I can't see you getting anywhere with this.

Hi likay-4696, thanks for your post.

You can try contacting Google through their app or website (Maps) and request/suggest updating the phone number, this is something that can be done, but since they are not the same company as us, I don't know if they will need something from you to prove this and change it nor how long it'd take for them to do this. With Siri, I am presuming once you sort Google, that will get that sorted as well since it gathers the information from Google most likely.

Thank you,

Marco

I really would have thought that it's highly unlikely that Google would change the contact number for eBay simply because someone contacts them out of the blue and asks them to change it...

Maybe the Community Team could be slightly more proactive in this case, gather whatever details are required from @likay-4696  and then contact Google directly to have the number corrected? Surely that's far more likely to result in the number being changed?

Just a thought...

I’d  agree. If a business listing is on eBay and it has an incorrect mobile number there’s two options.

one it’s a listing owned by eBay. EBay need to request the change

two it’s not a listing eBay own and eBay should sort that out.

i would agree the suggestion above to change mobile number is likely to be quicker than eBay’s wheels of bureaucracy though.

If you do change your number. Maybe keep the current number open and set a voicemail on it that is incredibly rude and disrespectful of eBay and advise that one shops elsewhere.

i imagine eBay will quickly change the number then.

I think it's a Google error.

I don't think ebay would ever have advertised a mobile number as their contact number.

Many years ago I had a number similar to a new car parts shop that had opened in area.

I asked them to change their number because I kept getting calls.

They refused, so I started quoting silly prices for parts and saying I would reserve for when they came in aka a part that would cost £150 quoting £25 😆

Thanks for your reply, @jonatjonatjonat @jonatjonatjonat.

You need to understand that we have no control over 3rd party companies, and we wouldn't take details to assist with issues caused/from different companies, and we obviously wouldn't use a random number nor a customer's number to add it as contact information on a 3rd party company/website when we always encourage members to contact us through our help pages.

While I understand where you are coming from, this is something members would need to do for themselves. Unfortunately, believe it or not, this happens quite often with Google, sometimes contact information, addresses or even working hours are wrong.

For example, I remember when I used to work in retail, the shop I used to work for had random working ours and a different phone number, and we received a few complaints about it, and we tried to update it, and we couldn't managed to do it. I believe the issue was eventually resolved, but unfortunately this is happens every now and then, due to different people suggesting different updates for the place in question, and since the platform making the updates is not us, there is nothing we could do about it.

Thanks,

Marco

Right - seeing as ebay won't help. You'll need to sort this yourself.

I assume that the listing on Google Maps in question is the eBay (UK) Limited which is apparently in a 2up 2down Terrace in Darnall Sheffield.

You need to have a Google Account and first I would try to Claim the business - then delete it.

Alternatively - there should be a Suggest an edit button. Suggest that the Business Does Not Exist or any alternative option.

as it goes - it looks like eBay (UK) Limited, 1 More London Place hasn't actually been Claimed as a Google business profile.

I suggested an Edit to Google (that being the business did not exist there).

I've just received an email that my edit has been accepted - though it may take 24 hours for the edit to process.

I assume that means the listing for ebay (UK) Limited in Darnall will disappear from Google maps.

@likay-4696

Well there's your answer.

I honestly shook my head in disbelief at the above response. To put it plainly: You're on your own with this. We don't care, we're not bothered and we're not even going to try to help. Still at least it wasn't suggested that you clear cache and cookies, so that made a change...

I really don't think you're going to get anywhere by contacting Google - it may be your number but it's eBay which needs to have the information corrected, not you - so in the total absence of any help whatsoever I would recommend @jonatjonatjonat's suggestion and deal with any unwanted calls with an earthy Anglo-Saxon response. That just might concentrate a few minds...

Can confirm the only eBay (UK) Limited now on Google maps is the one in London (again - still unclaimed as a business by anyone).

So, provided the one in Sheffield was the OPs mobile number (it was a mobile on the listing) - it should now be fixed - Siri might take a few days to filter through.

You're obviously far too helpful to be employed by eBay, @jonatjonatjonat ...

I've had experience of this - sometimes quite comical.

1    Manager of Bensons bed shop - kept getting calls for a Staples that had closed down several years previously. Normally required an explanation that we didn't sell ink cartridges and they were now online only and that they hadn't "gone somewhere else". No idea how the mix-up originated.

2 Manager of charity shop, which shared a name with an Haulage business from Manchester that had gone bankrupt. Reddit had our number under their address so we got numerous calls from threatening debt collectors, debt management agencies and people wanting to speak to Keith. Took about 3 years to resolve.

3 Home number somehow mixed up with local council's number for reporting faulty street lights, resulting in calls at any time of day or night.

4 Pre-internet, called Warwickshire County Cricket Club for an update of the score to be told "We're not the ******* cricket ground **** off!". Turned out a "Cricketing Diary" had published the wrong number.

Good luck!
