Hi I have a theoretical question
If I were to sell something and in the listing I stated that I didn't accept returns(I didn't notice this at the time) and somebody has bought the item. What happens if they falsely claim the item is not right? I'm worried eBay will just see that I don't accept returns and then go ahead and refund the buyer without hesitation. Will I not be protected? I don't think it would be fair to not make the buyer return the item before getting a refund, especially when the seller is adamant that there is nothing wrong with the item

No returns on your listing only means for a change of mind return. All sellers have to accept not as described returns no matter what they put on their listings. As long as you send the buyer a returns label then the item has to be returned before the buyer gets a refund.

If a buyer opens a not as described case, you get three days to agree to the return and supply the buyer with a prepaid returns label. If you do not do this then the buyer can ask ebay to step in. Ebay may then send the buyer a label but most often will refund the buyer from your funds without the item being returned.

Stating 'No returns' only applies to 'Change of mind' returns. All sellers have to accept 'Item not as described' returns.
Regardless of whether the buyer opens a 'Change of mind' return or an 'Item not as described' return ebay still requires the item to be returned before a refund is issued. The only difference is who pays for the return label.

Thank you, that's reassuring to read. Hopefully nothing like this happens but my mind always assumes the worst since being scammed before... Will just have to make sure I've got enough proof to back up my items

How is this an "item not as described" case? The listing said "not working" and the buyer claims it is "not working" so the item was as described. If eBay tolerates such nonsense, it is no longer a good place to do business.

Saying you don't accept returns doesn't help you. I understood and hope that returners had to state a true reason to return but it now looks like they don't have to.

The returns system is fully automated,no humans look at it at all so "proof" doesn't come into a dispute if a buyer claims not as described and the listing shows the Ebay "money back guarantee" at top right of the listing.
Even if you list something as faulty,not working,for parts only,a buyer can still win a not as described claim.
Once the claim is settled and buyer is refunded in full you may get the option to appeal and claim that a buyer has abused the returns system/MBG.

There is nothing on this post about an item described as not working so when did i say this was a not as described case?

I had a book returned because the buyer "did not like it" - you have to accept it.
