This is not a complaint, I'm just a little confused. I sold an item a few weeks ago. The tracking info said it was delivered, I even had photo evidence of the delivery. The customer said they didn't receive the item and opened up a case. The case was closed in the buyers favour which surprised me. Ebay refunded the buyer at no cost to myself. I have 2 questions:
Firstly, Why would ebay side with the buyer on this when I have photo evidence the parcel was delivered?
Secondly, ebay has refunded the buyer at no cost to myself! I have never exprienced this before. Is this a new ebay policy?
Thank you

Depends what the photo evidence shows. Was it left on a doorstep? This can happen and obviously, in some instances that can lead to theft of the parcel.
I assume this is part of ebays new Buyer Protection and Simple Delivery setup.
If the customer is adamant they didn't receive the order - then ebay can take the decision to refund that customer.
Given it doesn't impact you and only impacts ebay - I wouldn't worry too much!

Sounds like a buyers scam to me Ebay as it maid very easy for them to do this and they get away with it good old Ebay.

In a scenario where an item might have been stolen from a doorstep after delivery then ebay might take the view that it's better to keep the buyer happy especially if they are otherwise a good user with little to no case history. Provided they are not deducting from sellers then it's up to ebay what they want to do with their money to satisfy the buyer.
I wonder if such refunds are becoming more frequent now ebay are pushing a high proportion of deliveries to Evri as my local driver never bothers to find a safe place unlike RM who seem to care.

Was it a Simple Delivery label?

Good Afternoon njw
I assume that we are talking about the trainers. I also assume that you used Simple Delivery. If that is the case then if your item gets lost or damaged then eBay will make good the loss to both parties. In this case, as you say, neither of you has lost out. That is one of the excellent benefits of using Simple Delivery.
Forget about it particularly as you are not out of pocket. Move on.
Perhaps I can ask you something? Why are you selling items for as little as 0.8p? It's not worth the effort.

When you have a moment look up the new Simple Delivery info in the Help & Contact above. It will explain the new system and one of the benefits (i.e. refunding the buyer when there is an issue without if affecting the sellers funds or feedback, etc.).
Whilst there are porch pirate losses am sure that eBay is going to discover not all buyers are as honest as they believe.

The 8p thing is yet another glitch, the real selling price will be something else.
