How will 'Simple' Delivery accomodate RM Special Delivery items??

I have not tried the new ridiculous service yet (I can still change to my preference) but having read the blurb from eBay, it appears the Post Office has been completely cut out of the picture.

What about Special Delivery for precious items e.g. gold etc? eBay cannot issue a label for this so are we expected to lose the insurance that SD offers for loss of package after April 15th?

'What about Special Delivery for precious items e.g. gold etc?'

Special Delivery is from Royal Mail, who *are* one opf the two options on Simple Del. You are asking about the 'exclusion list' problem that nobody from ebay  or anywhere else has come up with a useful answer to yet!

The options from on Simple Del are 'standard' and 'Express'.

I was looking at the Simple Delivery system with a logical eye, aware that a logical computer system was running it.....(yes, I've been being over optimistic about ebay's computers!)  hoping that 'express' meant Special Delivery. Hoping that the computer would see how much the item was worth and make the 'express' service the only one available. *And* that it was Special Del.

Somebody on another thread put up an experimental listing with 'express' as the chosen delivery.

It turned out to be RM 24, not Special ...🙁

Another experimental listing needs to be tried, where the item is worth *over* £70. (?...or whatever RM state has to be sent by Special to be covered) to then see if the 'express' service is Special or not.

Ebay have stated that they *will* be covering loss or damage to item sent with Simple Del, as long as those items conform to the carriers rules.   i.e. not on the hysterically long 'exclusion list'........ so don't list anything breakable or worth much until this has been answered!

Sorry but didn't mean to press the 'Solution' button!

I cannot see how the 'Express' option could possibly be Special Delivery as it would need the SD sticker surely. Also, is there an option to have a signature on the other options?

Yep, we really do need an answer from ebay on this.

Until that point nobody can happily send anything expensive on the exculsions list, if we don't know whether or not it's insured.....

(and it doesn't look like ebay will cough up for loss/damage)

If it's just breakable but not expensive, it's still not insured but what the 'ell..... still worth the small risk of sending....

@papso22   mistaken 'solution' , solution please? 😆

I think some of this may not become clear until it's all up and running, but maybe have a look through the chat here, there were some questions along these lines asked / answered.

https://community.ebay.co.uk/t5/Chat-with-the-eBay-Community/Weekly-Chat-with-the-eBay-Community-Tea...

I think somewhere in there it was stated that for items on the exclusion list you don't have to use 'simple' delivery but how that will be determind or allowed I don't know.

Jewellery and precious metals are two of the exemptions to simple delivery - well, it was.  Still showing as exempt on business accounts, however, I can find anything for private sellers.

Would make sense, as Royal Mail only insure jewellery and precious metals sent via simple delivery.

If items are restricted by the courier/RM you can chose custom postage (agent chat, eBay announcements)

however they haven’t included this as yet in their switch to custom postage option when listing for exemptions through SD

they have for heavy or oversized items but not restricted items nor items under 100g/under 10£/fits in an envelope exemptions

apparently there is a mass mailing due any day to detail all this

the saga continues

maybe since they ARE excluded you ca use the heavy oversized link to get to custom postage and put in whatever size and weight and carrier and service and cost you like
