How can I cancel a listing which I suspect a fraudster has done buy it now and paid without the fear of receiving negative feedback?

I tend to cancel with the reason of ‘problem with buyers address’. Not had it bite me back yet but it may be possible for them to leave a neg. Check what feedback they have left other sellers. If its none, then your chances are better.

Since they have paid they can leave negative feedback if you cancel.

@plpmr is correct eBay don't want you to cancel generally. I didn't just suspect but knew I had a malicious purchase and eBay CS advice was to go through with the sale. In hindsight I personally wish I hadn't, but only you can decide what the likely outcome will be, if eBay has good support for that outcome, and if it is worth potentially losing the item (e.g. if it is purposefully damaged or destroyed by the Buyer). In my case, I ended up with a Negative anyway, so wish I had saved the money and hassle.

Thanks for your answer. I thought I’d blocked buyers with zero or minus
feedback but I’m not sure how to do that. My winning bidders are zero and
minus one.

You can't block bidders with zero feedback.

Simply because everybody has to start somewhere.

When you get left a neg, it's the seller's reply to it that makes the difference. If the response to a neg is calm, factual and polite, it doesn't scare many buyers off.

It'd look like a reasonable seller with an unreasonable buyer!

(if you get loads of negs, regardless of how you respond, that's a different matter....)

indeed the sellers reply can make all the difference.

Unfortunately the OP's reply to the neg they got would cause them serious problems if the buyer had a mind to take matters all the way.

Have to ask -  why do buyers pay more than their value for your left over holiday Euros? Are they collectible notes?

I've seen this with gift cards, when they go for more than their face value.

Genuinely intrigued.
