YES AFTER 10 YEARS OF SELLING, EBAY HAVE FINALLY PUSHED LOW PRICED SELLERS OFF THE CLIFF, I SELL RECORDS AT 50p EACH AND WITH EBAY'S BUYER PROTECTION IT BUMPS THE PRICE UP TO £1.24 WHICH IS MORE THAN MOST OF THEM ARE WORTH, WHO'S GOING TO BUY A £1.50 LOAF OF BREAD FOR £3.75, AND I CAN'T BECOME A BUISNESS SELLER BECAUSE OF THE INSERT FEES AS YOU HAVE TO PAY EVEN IF YOUR ITEM DON'T SELL, I USED TO LIST 1000 RECORDS FOR FREE AND SOLD AROUND 150, NOW I CAN ONLY LIST 300 OF WHICH I WOULD ONLY SELL AROUND 50, THAT MEANS 250 INSERT FEES DOWN THE DRAIN, SO THANK YOU TO THE IDIOT WHO CAME UP WITH THIS IDEA YOU HAVE LOST ANOTHER SELLER, PLUS I BUY LOTS OF RECORDS FROM LOW PRICE SELLERS, AND NOW WITH THE BP IT PRICES ME OUT OF MANY PURCHASES SO I AM BUYING LESS, BUT I DON'T SURPOSE EBAY GIVE A MONKEY'S, TIME TO GIVE E-BID A GO AND SUMMERS COMMING BACK TO CAR BOOT SALES, TO ALL MY CUSTOMERS IF THEY SEE THIS, CHEERS FOR YOUR CUSTOM.

Maybe sell them in batches ?
maybe say pick 5 of the following
and then list all the titles you want and buyer messages you their requirements. Or do listings of batches of similar genre Just an idea
it is pants though for cheap items
ebay should NOT have implemented a blanket 75p but graduated it from 5p or something if they felt the urgent need for bpfs
cos on 99p items it’s like 75 % more expensive
i call it stupid and gross and greedy and incoonsiderate at best

THOUGHT OF DOING THAT, BUT AGAIN AFTER BP THEY ARE PRICED MORE THAN WHAT THEY ARE WORTH, I BUY A LOT OF JOB LOTS LIKE THIS BUT IT'S PRICED ME OUT OF BUYING, AND YES THEY SHOULD IMPLEMENT THE BUYER PROTECTION FOR ITEMS STARTING AT £5 THAT WOULD MAKE MORE SENSE, AND MAYBE THEY WOULD'NT BE LOSING SO MANY BUYERS AND SELLERS

30,000 items sold on a private account and you admit to being a business but not being able to afford the fees.
If you can't afford to operate properly as a business you shouldn't be using ebay to sell on at all.
Buyers from business accounts don't get charged the buyer protection fee.

DOES'NT SAY ANYWHERE THAT I AM A BUISNESS, PRIVATE SELLER WHO COLLECTS RECORDS I BUY JOB LOTS AND SELL OFF WHAT I DON'T WANT AND TRY AND GET MY MONEY BACK, I'M NOT EVEN ON IT FOR PROFIT, AND WHAT A REMARK ABOUT AFFORDING TO OPERATE PROPERLY, I CAN AFFORD THE FEES BUT PAYING FEES FOR ITEMS THAT MAY NOT SELL IS MAD, I THINK THATS GOOD BUISNESS SENSE, EBAY WAS ONCE FUN, GETTING RID OF ITEMS AROUND THE HOUSE YOU NO LONGER NEED, NOW IT'S ALL ABOUT THE BUISNESSES AND HOW MUCH MONEY THEY CAN GET FROM THEM

Ha! Good on you. Some people talk a load of pap, so you just have to tune them out.

You tell them ! Pretty sure it`s a robot or a stuck record telling everyone they are a business ,I imagine a dalek like voice muttering away in a dark room somewhere ! Good luck in whatever direction you go E bay is doomed 20 years of towing the line ,but this recent bunch of changes is the straw that broke the camels back .

I see what you did there and I like it !

I just meant if you sell them individually buyer will pay 75p for each one on top of the price
if you sell batches they will only pay the 75p once for the single listing of 5 or whatever number you sell together

NO I GOT IT, BUT A BATCH OF FIVE I WOULD LIST AT £2.50 WITH BP ADDED STILL TOO MUCH, I REMEMBER ADDING 25p ON THE POSTAGE WHEN IT WENT UP, I LOST A FEW CUSTOMERS THEN, BUT NEVER MIND THEY SAY ONE DOOR CLOSES ANOTHER DOOR OPENS

Gumtree is free
don’t know how it works though exactly though I don’t think there’s restrictions on selling any kind of personal stuff
Good luck anyway
ebid has very low fees but don’t know how well records sell there

I have used a site called 'preloved' in the past but *think* it is just people coming in person to buy.

Beautifully summed up. Totally with you on this one. My sales have dropped to rock bottom with BPF, even though I've absorbed some of the fee myself by reducing prices, however, this doesn't seem to have made much difference, therefore I will be buying less on ebay going forward. I imagine the BPF will impact both business & private sellers alike for this reason. Likewise, I have looked at changing from a private to business seller account but the fees make it unviable. Just to clarify to all those business sellers out there, I don't make a fortune & nowhere near my personal tax allowance. I also complete a tax return every year! Maybe ebay could classify a business seller as someone who has sales over a certain amount, but I know that is difficult as costs & actual profit need to be factored in.

Ebay classifies a business seller as someone who makes, buys or grows, things to sell.
A personal seller is someone getting rid of unwanted personal possessions.
If you are completing a tax return for your ebay sales you need a business account on ebay. That's because if you meet the badges of trade for tax purposes you must be trading for ebay purposes.

How can you possibly be a business if you dont make a profit and you arent in it to make a profit. If he doesnt make the legal limit for paying tax then he isnt a business!!!!

Whether someone is a business or not has nothing to do with the profit or loss that they make. It is based on the reason for selling.
If you purchase or make an item with the intention of selling it on, then you are a business. If you sell at a loss, then there won't be tax to pay but that doesn't mean that you don't have to register. Being a business is about ensuring that customers receive their legal rights.

Hello

If he buys to sell then he is a business/sole trader, if he is not making a profit then he is a bad business. Making a profit does not make you a business. Always best to go by what the HMRC says about it. Majority of businesses on the wrong account would not even owe the HMRC anything but if caught will owe fines and penalties plus interest.
Most low-cost private sellers would actually be better off registering as a business with eBay. I did an example yesterday to someone who has to list @ £1.17 to get a price of £1.95p the buyer pays. That £1.17 after postage would be 32p made to the seller. I told them the £1.95p they could list as a business would only get 42p FVF from eBay if they activate low-cost item FVF 15%+5p. £1.95 – 42p = £1.53 so after 85p postage they would make 68p They would pay 36p a month to list that multi listing they had up so would make money after the first sale

That last comment is a bit laughable, just because someone may or may not make a profit is not what decides if they are a business or not.

You have some of the information wrong, it is over 30 items and £1700. The yearly turnover of £3k is nothing to do with e bay, that is a UK government tax . The first two requirements are actually required because of an agreement between the OECD countries (of which we are one). It involves all online market places and other types such as Airbnb, Uber etc.
