Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Someone found the dates yesterday and posted them. Just thought it made sense to make it easier to find.

It's in the Help Section under Opt out

Simple Delivery will be the only listing option as of 15th April and they will start adjusting current listings from the 7th April.

So at least we know where the Iceberg is now.

I had to do text search to make sure it really was from eBay's T&C.

Now I'm not sure in future eBay will allow sellers to deselect Evri as thier shipping preference.

Will Packling be the main player in SD ??

If Simple Delivery is something you are concerned about/something you want no involvement in, I'd suggest you make your opinion known. Post here, make a new thread asking for a "vote count against". Whatever you like.

But for people that are hoping they change their minds at some point, keep in mind that their new terms and conditions allow them to change things whenever they want.

So if say in 6 months time they start advertising BPF Free, no Fund holding and no Simple Delivery, to get the sellers back, unless they've changed the terms and conditions so they have to give notice again they can just change it straight back.

Get you back in and pull the rug from under your feet.

@manyjamjar

Technically they aren't really allowing it now. They left themselves a breakout clause for that option they gave the sellers, so any choice the sellers made they could always override.

But with the Simple Delivery Pricing being published it looks like the seller choice is nothing more than a trap.

The best postage price is conditional on having both selected.

If you deselect one the postage prices rise.

So if you deselect Evri, your buyers pay eBay's full fee, but eBay can still use Evri via their breakout clause.

So if the buyers get angry at postage prices, they can point to the sellers. It's their fault.

But I doubt they will explain that the system they designed allows them to do this regardless to whether a seller uses their selection options or not.

It's a very sneaky trap. The smartest thing I've seen from them from everything I've read here.

The only way to avoid it is to stop selling.

Also now it remains to be seen if ebay keeps open the star rating for shipping cost for private sellers.

It would be a good laugh if they did.

I'm bet they will, especially as the SD listings that were appearing yesterday all had 2-3 day delivery EDD's on them.

So when the buyers complain eBay can blame the sellers.

The sellers chose courier options, the sellers didn't post in time.

So then they have a new money making option.

As soon as the sellers start losing their 100% ratings, performance metrics come into play. So they have an excuse to hold money longer.

Make them jump through more bs hoops to actually get paid.

& none of it is the sellers fault. It's been designed by eBay to do this.

Part of the Simple Delivery information rollout was that sellers had 3 days for order turnaround. How can they use that when eBay are quoting a total of 3 days for delivery?

Another trap!

With Royal Mail 48 Tracked you'd be lucky if it arrived in 3 days even if you dispatched same day.

Some very sneaky people have been involved in this part of the rollout.

I'm hoping this below, from Value Added Resource Newsletter,  and some other  updated notification I remember seeing,  shows a truer picture,  that is, No confirmed date has been announced.

UPDATE: 2-26-25

eBay Q4 2024 earnings call reveals Simple Delivery mandate for private UK sellers has been pushed to Q2, with plans to introduce a seller paid free-shipping option.

@tressygirl

Unless I'm mistaken April 7th is Q2.

& even if it isn't, the combination of the official CEO announcements and new terms and conditions allow them to change things whenever they want.

You're right, one announcement said before the end of Q2 so guess early on in the ' beginning' counts too,   but no ' Official Announcement' of that actual date has been given , only info at the bottom of a generic help page.

Guess we then all wait and see what happens on the 7th April,  if there's no announcement beforehand.

Going by the info in the Help section they will start going through current listings and altering them to Simple Delivery where necessary.

15th April Simple Delivery becomes the only listing option.

Guess I was hoping against hope that before the END of Q2  meant near the end.

Guess they're right when one says.... ' Hope is a waking Dream!'

Hate to think I will not be able to use my little village PO sooner than I thought.😪

If you know the update exists - or even if you know of the possible changes to come.

The introduction of mandatory Simple Delivery is, IMHO, a watershed moment.

Genuine Private Sellers (who know about this) will need to decide if it’s still viable to sell on eBay - and they can only do that (prepare) based on eBay’s own current readily accessible information (which we all know is always a bit dodgy anyway - but that’s all they have).

But those genuine Private Sellers who don’t know about the Boards or the Help Pages or any of the changes or updates will wonder what’s happening - especially when they start getting less money than they thought or find it difficult/frustrating even to list.

I can imagine many will now be put off and just give up.

Opting out

From 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers who list eligible items on eBay.co.uk. The option to opt out will no longer be available.

Before this date, you can still opt out of Simple Delivery when you're creating your listing by selecting Custom Postage from the delivery options. However, we'll begin to add Simple Delivery as the delivery method to existing listings from 7 April, including listings that were previously opted out of the programme.

Thats defo the end of our days on Ebay then.

Yep,  agree with all you've said above.  The number of peeps who know about this Community forum must be in a very low percentage compared to the number of Private sellers on eBay.

I mean the actual link once nicely and ' loudly' announced at the top of the pages,  is now a faint link at the bottom of eBay pages.

Not easy to find, not everyone knows we're here! 🤔

Well you will be busy all day every day explaining it to those that come on the boards 😎

So, what happened to the 'announcement' that we were told would happen as soon as there was a date for this? People went on holiday for asking about this, and now we  actually find out about it from  another eBay user finding the info snuck into the SD T&C's.  Not from an announcement, not from the community team.

Could it be that eBay were just hoping to switch current listings on 7th, without anyone knowing about it?

Indeed - the link at the top of the page was moved down to the bottom amongst the other links not long after the old Boards were ended.

A very bad move.

But the move was probably to preserve the Mods' sanity - given what went on the Q&A for example!

To be honest i can also see these boards being shut down.   A lot of regular responders may well also leave the site.     I know that when we do i will not continue helping on the boards.

Simple delivery will just not work for us due to our lifestyle 😞

Ha ha i have stayed on the old pages and never opted into the seller hub either 🙂

In future i guess we will do a car boot sale only twice a year to get rid of the mountains of inherited items we still have.   Not ideal but probably a nice day out at the racecourse in Stratford Upon Avon 🙂

Plan B have another drive sale......only done one before but it was very lucrative 🙂

Plan C......go to the coast for up to a week as we often do.   Throw a load of items in the car and do one locally wherever we happen to be lol

"If you have chosen to offer free delivery, you agree that the delivery costs owed to eBay will be deducted from your account. You agree that no further delivery costs are owed to you by your buyer for the Simple Delivery label provided to you."

I don't mind the change over, but the costs that i last saw are rediculous. Even a postcard costs over £2.50. No large letter at £1.55... How is this beneficial to ebay if they are not takijg a cut?
