Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Someone found the dates yesterday and posted them. Just thought it made sense to make it easier to find.

It's in the Help Section under Opt out

Simple Delivery will be the only listing option as of 15th April and they will start adjusting current listings from the 7th April.

So at least we know where the Iceberg is now.

Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

We are here there and everywhere and have been for several months following the death of my sis in law.  Usually we just pack an item and take it to a Post Office close to wherever we may be.  Its hard juggling everything at the minute......let alone complying with this daft simple delivery.

'low priced items are excluded', how low 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 do we have to guess 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Come on Ebay, you need to tell us the complete story.

I doubt they have worked that out yet. Everything is reactionary.

Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

I'm out.  This Simple Delivery is just a joke.

Currently use Royal Mail's collection service with Bring My Own Label as I don't own a printer. The nearest RM QR location is 3 miles away and only open very limited hours. You can't use the RM label service with postage booked through eBay, so I either have to buy a printer or print my labels elsewhere.

As a private seller I normally only post one item at a time, so can't justify the overheads of travel for every item. I was going to switch to posting once a week to try and offset costs, but there's a maximum 3 day despatch time now.

With buyer protection the items I've got listed will now cost the buyer £3.50 in fees/postage instead of the £1.90 previously. All this on items I'm selling for £1-2.

Guess I'll be clearing all my stuff out to charity shop now.

It's the end of ebay as a platform for private sellers. Hoist by their own petard.

Alternatives exist, and will undoubtedly replace ebay in the market.

Yes, you can exclude particular carriers. I have excluded Evri as I hate them! The option is in the postage preferences section on your account settings page.

I currently list my items as free postage so that I don't have to offer the extortionate simple delivery prices ebay offer and can just buy a label i.e. tracked 48 small parcel for £3.39.

So from the 15th all my listings offering free postage will remain but I'll be forced to pay the extortionate prices directly from ebay? Looks like I'll be cancelling a lot of items, it just won't be worth it!

This would be great if sellers could benefit from actual competitive rates but to say save 20% off postage costs is just a lie!

@maranoblet

You are only showing half of the picture with that post.

When they gave sellers that choice they also changed terms and conditions to allow themselves a backdoor. They can override any selection you make.

Well I must admit I haven't heard that and would be astonished if they did do it.

That said I wouldn't put anything past them!

If they do it even once I will cancel the sale and never sell on Ebay again. I have had extremely bad experience with Evri in the past and will not use them.

well it is in the updated T & Cs that were sent out so you will have to be astonished, not sure why, like any organisation they do what suits them.   Probably so that if so many people out of EVRI then EVRI will be very unhappy about the backhander they are giving e bay to be a courier!  So if that happens they can start throwing stuff Evri way regardless of what the seller says.

I’ve delisted everything for now to see how this goes, as I don’t see that I can continue to used the tracked 48 hr which has been working well so far and collected next day,  and I can’t currently get to drop off points.

Well If you say it's there I believe you. Life's too short to read small print ha ha!

Even if the mechanism is there I still doubt they will force a carrier choice on you when you have explicitly excluded them. It's probably them just keeping their options open in case of disputes with either of the carriers.

Of course I could be being overlly optimistic!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an Ebay apologist,  I am not happy about this simple delivery farce and am quite angry about it, I want to keep the freedom of choice in the current system. But it doesn't matter what sellers think, they are crashing ahead regardless.

Maybe I will have to try and get my head around FB marketplace instead (though I'd rather not), We shall see how it all pans out.

I am a bit concerned about eBays up and coming Simple Delivery option. I have spoken to eBay about how does the postage work if a Buyer buys multiple items. The response was that each item will have to be posted seperately, thus increasing the postage costs for a Buyer. They have not considered allowing multiple purchases and combined shipping. There is not an opt out for Simple Delivery.

Sorry i do not quite get all this,  Does this mean that all postage labels have to be printed  (no more hand written labels) either with a home printer or at a post office that has a qr code reader and printer. I do not possess a printer and my phone is so old it is rarely used and has not got a QR reader (or app)for this type of transaction. - I mainly dispose of CD's either singulary or bundled and use R/M tracked 48.

From above, that’s truly amazing that eBay “have not considered allowing multiple purchases and combined shipping” with the stupid Simple Delivery system….

I sell and buy vinyl records for a hobby. I have removed most of my listings and instead I listed them on Discogs.

Myself and other collector friends have noticed a massive down turn on items for sale on eBay the past month+

All we get now is constant auto relisting's of expensive records from business sellers that has been doing the rounds for years.

Plus now USA sellers crop up in all UK searches, that's something I hadn't experienced before, a few months ago it was just the UK listings, eBay must be padding out searches with USA listings, even when I filter them out they appear.

eBay is dead, they have killed themselves with the stupid Buyer Fee and now the forced on us mandatory Simple Delivery.

Exactly my feeling, I sell a lot of low value items between £3 and £5 and these often cost either 85p or £1.55 to post for which I get a proof of posting so that if anything gets lost Royal Mail will reimburse me, and me the seller. Charging £2.70 to post these items will be totally uneconomic and people simply won't buy. I can see lot lot of my stuff going into recycling or the charity shops.
I do wonder if eBay are taking a cut from the Royal Mail/Evri deal, which we are not being told about, hence the high postage prices. A bit like car buyers not being told about hidden commission in their transactions??

Not a chance; these boards are a great way for eBay to control what is said about them. eBay are certainly not going to want some unofficial eBay user community forum to spring up; especially not one they would be unable to moderate.

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

The Simple Postage option also means that we can no longer use postage stamps (that we have already paid for and may have many £000 hundreds to use up) on our dispatches, where this is a cheaper letter/large letter option for low value items, and we will have to pay out money to pay the eBay postage prices that they decide.

Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Well, it’s no use being in a tiff about it now.

I have been adpapting and so far touch wood, everything is more or less the same as before but I’m nervous about simple delivery. Yet the email sent out to me was extremely vague about the terms and conditions and not that specific about how low the cost will need to be to opt out.

It’s all a load of bs. I don’t mind putting the effort in because I prefer putting the effort in because I like that sort of commitment towards my buyers. I prefer running my private account my own way rather than let eBay handle everything and ostracising myself from the majority of accountability and responsibilities as a seller to my buyers.

so come the 15th of April I’m not leaving no. I’m staying but I’m pausing sales.
Let’s see how eBay likes that. People can view but not buy. That’ll make them zero money.

It’s all a joke taking control and accountability from the sellers and treating us like fools and criminals and in some ways saying we aren’t trustworthy, so we have had to take measures against it.
