Buyer Protection Fees

I joined ebay to sell my stamp collection and surplus that I collected over several years. I am sad to say my experience has gone from bad to worse. The platform seems fraught with issues. I understood from other more experienced sellers that the platform has got more difficult to navigate as a seller with rules changing fairly regularly.

Whilst on the whole I am somewhat happy with my sales, the charges were quite high. I was pleased when they scrapped the fees a few months ago. Having said that your sales were likely to be poor if you did not pay for 'promoted listings'. The latest news on 'Buyer Protection Fees' (stealth tax??) will now make my venture no longer viable.  Most of the items I sell are less than £5 so the charge would mean sales would to all intents and purposes stop. Between postage prices and fees as a prospective buyer I think I would look elsewhere.  Talking as a stamp collector I think a lot of lay sellers will give up and in turn this will shrink the market as buyers will have a smaller choice. I will start winding down as of today and close as quickly as I can once the new rules take effect. I think its been fun. Good luck to all you buyers and sellers.

Re: Buyer Protection Fees

I have just found out that my new listings starting price has been automatically inflated by ebay to include a buyers protection fee - as I do this as a hobby with little or no profit it now is not viable and I regrettably think it is time I found somewhere else to sell.  My draught excluders are made with the best quality fabric which is expensive and yet I only charge around £10 but the starting price on the listing has been automatically increased to around £12 on average and this looks to buyers as if I have increased the price when I havent and also I am subsequently getting no sales all or a sudden - I was only getting one or two a week and paying the postage - I am not at all happy after 25 years with ebay - it is toally unfair to increase the starting price without the permisson of the seller - it they are going to do this they should do as others do and put in on the check out amount and not automatically on the listing.
