Broken teapot

I sold a willow tree Sadler teapot to a buyer through Yodel. I packed it tightly in bubble wrap,  yet the buyer said it arrived damaged. He sent me photos and demanded a refund.

I rang up Yodel, who said it had arrived unbroken. Apparently, the photos I sent Yodel confirmed the buyer had deliberately smashed it with a hammer.

So I refunded him, and then the buyer said he hadn't received the refund. So I sent him a screenshot that proved I had!

I'm autistic and refunded the buyer, but I've also blocked him. How do I stop this from happening again, please?

Re: Broken teapot

Inadequate packaging.

Sometimes the simplest answers are the best, not made up ones about hammers 😀. Fun thread though.

Re: Broken teapot

You’re covered for fragile items with SD  long as they’re packed properly

according to latest announcement on SD

in other words ebay will cover for this (damage)whilst normally evri wouldn’t

——————-

Fragile items can be included within the Simple Delivery service: When you follow our packaging guidance, you benefit from the protection for damage in transit offered by Simple Delivery.

Re: Broken teapot

This video shows someone wrapping a teapot:

After a week of intense packaging, it only made sense to create a video like this. This time, I'm demonstrating how I wrap my teapots so that they survive their journeys across the globe. There's a kick test... a stand test too, all in order to see how strong the parcel is. This particular box ...

Re: Broken teapot

That was pretty rotten.....& really a "one off"?  I sell mostly books but odd pieces of china also. It is a bore but I have been thinking of photographing my packing of the breakables, (cdnt do a video being solo) & the finished box. If one is tech minded they can be sent via messages? I use a lot of the indi booksellers discarded paper wrapping from Gardiners which they are pleased to get rid of.  If you open it out a little & then screw it up lightly it is a fantastic material for filling up spaces. (Gardiners boxes cut down quite well to 6" & are very strong) plus bubble wrap of course for the breakables, sourced from retailers,  who are also glad...!! I pay for parcel tape only...boxes again from shops or offices around me. I even get a supply of the card envelopes so beloved of Amazon!! I have too much packing right now!! So far, touch wood,I have never had a broken piece.

My relative sends out ceramics and always double boxes with plenty of packing between the 2 boxes.

Check the Courier you use if the they are insured for antique ceramics.  As I had this problem a few years ago when the tea-set arrived with a broken cup,  Courier postage did not cover breakages.

Re: Broken teapot

Even if Yodel were in a position to know how the damage was done (which they couldn't know), OF COURSE they'd say the damage wasn't done by Yodel, they'd be fools to say otherwise from a potential liability standpoint - they're just covering their a*se.
