package exceeds dimensions given for simple delivery

I sold a magazine (a radio times from the 1980s), and as with all other magazines simple delivery chooses large letter  (35cm x 25cm ).   This has always been good as I use standard A4 envelopes.

When I came to put this particular issue in an envelope, it seems it was some special edition that is wider than normal - it's actually 26cm wide.

What should I do now - the buyer has paid, I've got the label printed out and it says "ensure package does not exceed 35cmx25cm" on the postage page for the order.  I can't see any options for changing things once the label has been generated?

What would happen if I just posted it anyway in a package that was 1cm too wide?

If you post it anyway the buyer may have to pay a fee or it may be returned to you.   Your post office probably won't accept it anyway.

The best thing is to cancel/refund the transaction with the buyer's agreement (via the dropdown menu arrow for the item on your orders list) and relist with correct postage for the buyer to buy and pay again.

The alternative would be to buy and pay for the entire postage yourself but you cannot change the tracking number, only message it to the buyer.

Re: package exceeds dimensions given for simple delivery

I use Royal Mail lockers as post offices are not convenient with my work, and I have a locker in walking distance.

So dropping it off slightly larger than the max is no issue.

I've messaged the buyer pointing this out and saying if there's an issue with them trying to charge for a parcel rather than large letter, let me know and I'll pay it etc.

I know at post offices they put it through a slot to check it fits, but not sure whether they bother with items at lockers.   to the naked eye, you wouldn't know (it's actually more like 25.7cm now I've measured it).

Re: package exceeds dimensions given for simple delivery

If the label size is what eBay recommended at the time of the listing then there shouldn't be any issues.  The item will still be accepted by the carrier and there won't be any surcharges (definitely not to the buyer) as this is covered by eBay's contract with the carrier.

If you selected a different label size to that recommended by eBay when listing the item then eBay states that they may charge you for the postage difference plus a £1 admin fee, but I haven't seen anyone stating that this has actually happened yet.
