It is important to note that you can only apply for a refund if you are the seller and you offer free postage.

Otherwise, if the postage is paid by the buyer, Ebay refund the buyer for unused labels.

I was the seller, and I offered free postage, that of course I paid for. However EBAY imposed their new glorious "Simple Postage" at a rate of £ 2.74, whereas I could have posted it for £ 1.55. It basically wiped out the very small margin I had, I cancelled the listing and relisted but I still couldn't alter the new-fangled system to accept it.

Still not to worry, on the 30th of June, after nearly 26 years on here selling bits and bobs, the whole shebang can be placed where the sun doesn't shine. EBAY have wrecked what was a good system by constantly changing thing under the guise of " Improvements" yet in fact scr3wing it up.
So 3 more days and I'm gone for good.

It's a bit convoluted but what you should there is the following:

Print off the prepaid label but DO NOT USE IT.
Go to Royal Mail website and purchase the correct label.
Attach the correct one to the package.
As you have now printed the 'wrong' label that eBay supplied, you can now go to the View order page and add your own tracking details.
Once you've done that go to https://www.ebay.co.uk/claims/simple-delivery/refund/seller
Input the order number (not the item number) and make up the excuses you need.
This will start the ball rolling for you to get a refund of the UNUSED and wrong label. Refund can take up to 14 days. I have done it a few times and it works.

As stated before, this is the procedure if you are a seller offer FREE postage which means the seller pays postage.
