Why the heck has eBay changed the payment rules yet again? Are they trying to mimic another selling site with the same unfair policies?
After reading some comments on this subject, one reply to a member, who stated that they couldn't afford to fork out postage costs and wait until their parcel had been delivered before receiving payment (which I totally agree with), was "if that strapped for cash then really shouldn't be selling on eBay". What nonsense! In that case one wold just take items to a charity shop or bin them! The whole point of selling on eBay, I thought, was to make a bit of money, if financially well off then why bother?
I was about to start listing items for sale again, I'm trying to clear out my life of possessions because Yes, I do need the money and also because I'd like to make life a little easier for my family to cope with when I pop my clogs! I also donated a percentage of sales to charities that I think are very worthwhile but undervalued , and in need of help.
I'm really disappointed with eBay, the new rules, I think are going to affect lots of members and most likely eBay's reputation and profits too!

These new rules will introduced new problems.
I 48 track all my items to be safe however sometimes royal mail doesn't update them to say they've been delivered to the buyer (which has happened to me 2/3 times). Thankfully ive been contacted or been left feedback so I know they've made it.
So when these new rules come into play how would I be paid if this happens again?

Apparently if no delivery is noted/updated on an item dispatched, then a seller has to wait a couple of weeks for payment which is totally unfair in my opinion.

totally unfair. im guessing itll be like sending a non tracked item. but if i got tracking i would like my money early as possible within these new rules

I'm in a similar position as yourself and I feel for you. I've not listed for months and life (poor health) being as it is, I need to clear my place as best I can. I've ended up in social housing and yes of course, I'm glad for a roof over my head. My family won't be able to/want clear my home and so the landlords will send their contractors in and clear the lot within weeks and they will have a field day! I've given so much to charity, but I'm struggling and need some pennies. I'm truly shocked to see the changes - I'm absolutely horrified! Ebay was working so well .... reading yours and many of the others, I have to say I'm petrified to try and list. I can't understand the reasoning for all this - none of it makes sense, except to say it's to make more profit (and I don't mind that so much), but I hate the fact that they have total control and I/we will have little or no choice.

Yes I always send items tracked 48 too but like you say, sometimes an item sold has not been marked as delivered, even though we can see that is has via Royal Mail tracking. If, and it's a big if, I sell on eBay again I'll go back to posting parcels with signed for delivery, it's more expensive for the buyer but I see it as the only option that will get the seller paid quickly. If and when eBay starts this enforced simple delivery as the only postage method then I expect a lot of dissatisfied sellers and buyers will just give up with eBay.

I'm scared to send off potential expensive items. Thankfully my most expensive items I'm trying to get rid of (I'm having a massive clear out) right now are collection only (instruments).
Since I started selling in August I've seen posting prices go up and if we have to now pay with our own money first before we see the money from the buyers that will affect sellers.

Hi again 🙂 Reading through the comments I saw one post that mentioned eBay are stopping the cash on collection option, I'm not sure if that's correct but I wouldn't surprised if it is. In fact eBay will probably charge folk just to become a member, that's how bad it's got!
Good luck selling your instruments, maybe try Facebook marketplace or specific groups on Facebook specialising in instruments. or maybe even a venue that has live bands. There's a pub near me that has live bands and upstairs is a business called Strings and Things, seems like an ideal place to advertise instruments for sale, that's if these venues allow such a thing? I'm going to check out FB and other online sites for selling, got to be worth a try!
All the Best!

Hiya! Couldn't get to sleep which is why I messaged at that time 😅.
Yeah it was something like you don't get the money until they've come collected it. Which is probably the only thing I'm alright with personally. I'd have an issue if they haven't paid for it yet and they collected it but I'm guessing ebay holds the money.
I used to be only on Facebook marketplace. I may go back I'm not sure yet. I moved to eBay because I felt safer, sell smaller stuff like CDs and wasn't as much weird people as there is on marketplace (so far that I've experienced).

Good luck with more tracking postage selling CD’s

The ONLY solution that I can see to this change with the payments is to stop selling on eBay

As from 1st of February 2025 I will no longer be selling any more items on eBay due to eBay's change in payment's. Most of my are sent out 2nd class post so there is no tracking and no proof of delivery so this means I will not get paid at all

For untracked deliveries, or tracked deliveries with no delivery confirmation, payments will be available 14 days from the order date.

One comment - IS IT LEGAL ?
You can`t go to a shop and say I`ll take the item and pay you in 2 weeks.
I`ve yet to find anyone anywhere who will send me goods and wait 2 weeks for payment so how can this be legal ?

Ben
This new process is ridiculous and I agree with you that tracking often is not updated to show delivery on eBay's site. In addition, mail often sits in a mail centre for days before delivery and my view is what should my payment be delayed. If I were buying from a retailer, they expect, and receive payment prior to despatch, so why are eBay sticking their oar in.
On my own purchase history over the last 6 months, I can find at least three tracked items that still do not show a status of 'Delivered', but I had received the items in question.
Perhaps eBay can explain how they intend to improve upon their own ability to achieve at least 99.9% accuracy in terms of status before they get involved in delaying peoples payment.
It easier to just not sell via eBay in future.
Regards
Ed

Unacceptable, not their money to sit on.

Interesting that this change is only being rolled out on the UK.
We have had 2 or 3 rule changes in the last year? None of them made sense.
Americans sticking it to us as usual.
I know some of the EU ebays have weird rules as well, but so far as I know they havent asked anyone else to wait on a tracking reciept for payment. Personally Im out, I expect others will be as well.

I would presume with eBay's deep, deep pockets that they hired the ' best lawyers in town' , and they've crossed all the T's, dotted all the i's, before going ahead with this.
