Hello.
Ever since the new wallet system has been introduced I have noticed that payments sit on "processing" for 24 hours before becoming available to withdraw.
Is this happening for everyone? it seems a lot slower than it used to be where I would be paid out much faster, usually funds were deposited to my bank account within 24 hours of a sale but now the minimum seems to be more than 24 hours thanks to this slow 'processing' stage before I can even initiate a withdrawal.
Is this just how it will be from now on?

Following the introduction of eBay balance on 16 October the Help&Contact 'Getting paid for items you've sold' page (https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/getting-paid/getting-paid-items-youve-sold?id=4814&st=3&pos=1&qu... ) was updated to include details of the new system and included the sentence "It typically takes 1 day from confirming the buyer’s payment for the sales proceeds to appear as Available for payout, unless the transaction was placed on hold, in which case it may take longer."
The same page now also includes information that transferring funds from an eBay balance to a bank account "typically takes another 0-4 days".
Basically from selling to having the money in your bank account can now take up to 5 days, though it's not specified whether that's business days or calendar days.
Is it how it will be from now on? Yes.

I certainly haven't noticed any delay once a payment has been initiated - usually deposited within a few hours but this 'processing' period is certainly new and an adjustment for many I'm sure.
Used to quite like making a sale at midnight and by the morning funds were in my account (payouts usually seemed to happen around 3AM).
Nevermind I guess, I'm not sure 'processing' is the right term for it though given the funds have clearly processed, it's effectively just an artificial 24 hour hold as far as I can tell.

I understand what you mean with regard to the term 'processing' and I agree it's probably something of a misnomer, as whilst the term 'processing' relates to 'performing a series of operations' eBay's definition appears to include the time between payment being made by the buyer and the actual processing of that payment.
In effect, eBay's processing is actually dependent on when the system is parsed and the seller's account is credited with the buyer's payment. It may run hourly, every couple of hours or at some other pre-determined time interval but it is evidently not instantaneous. Unfortunately that is a scheduling decision and there is nothing anyone can do to change that.

So eBay don’t have selling fees now. I cant help but think holding payments for a few days will allow them to earn interest on the payment. Seems dodgy to me.

It's certainly looking that way, sold something yesterday morning it says the funds will be available today.
From recent experience, that means they'll be withdrawable circa 11pm at night.

Seems to be a trend emerging here, mirrored by ebay user experiences on other sites too, of making it more difficult to access funds in various ways.
Used to be claimed that it was for 'security' reasons, but now seems to be explicitly commercially motivated and more aggressive. Customers are not fools, and have the final sanction of course. Underhand practices don't engender loyalty and drive sales long term.

Don't forget, for private sellers, from 4th February, payments will be held until tracking shows delivery, or 14 days in there is no tracking.

Hi, just a quick question, did your funds get available for withdraw before 11pm?
Had the same issue I’ve 2 items processing for 24 hours now and hopefully I won’t have to wait until 11pm tonight to withdraw.

My payment did eventually arrive, after a couple of weeks. I'll just avoid using ebay payments in any shape or form as clearly the plan is to withhold payments as long as possible.

This seems a crazy way of working with your sellers and buyers. Clearly they introduced FREE selling because sites such as Vinted have been taking their business but if I am a buyer I will not be happy at having to pay a charge (as I understand you will do if buying from a private seller) and as a seller I’m not happy with having to wait for my payment either. People will revert back to other sites to sell and buy their items.

I work as the Treasurer for a major Fortune 500 firm, which includes a large cross border payments business
The eBay payment processing for transactions can easily be done within less than 30 minutes (especially given that they are small value payments).
The long eBay processing has nothing to do with security checks (since 99% of transactions are between existing customers nor does it have anything to do with external intermediaries like PayPal, Visa, Mastercard etc).
By holding payments from sellers to buyers for short periods of time, effectively gives eBay free money and allows eBay to earn additional interest income (and a lot of it).
According to the most recent eBay Financials, eBay has on average 2 billion transactions per day, which equates to over 500 billion transactions per year.
Assuming the average transaction amount + the cost of postage is $10 (it could be a little less or even a lot more), but at $10 per transaction it means that eBay is holding $20 billion of cash on average in its bank accounts every single day because of this so called "payments processing". And because it is being done on a rolling basis (i.e., when eBay payout $20 billion to sellers 24 hours after receiving the money from buyers, it is simply replaced by the next day's $20 billion of payments from buyers, which will be held by eBay for at least 24 hours).
As such, eBay is effectively using money that technically belongs to the sellers as free money and earning interest on it.. all without compensating the sellers for these short term loans that they provide eBay.
A simple calculation shows that the additional interest earned by eBay from holding the funds for just 1 extra day is material. If interest rates are at 5%, eBay earns an additional $1 billion per year in interest by delaying payments to buyers for just a single day.
Sellers will notice eBay has no payment processing time issues when it comes to taking listing fees or advertising fees from buyers upon a sale. These funds are taken immediately.
Buyers will also notice that oddly eBay has no payment processing time issues when it comes to taking payments for goods purchased. Such payments are moved instantly from the bank accounts of buyers to an eBay bank account.
It's just when money has to be moved from an eBay bank account when suddenly it takes eBay time to process payments.
As mentioned, I work as the Treasurer of a major listed company with nearly $100 billion in revenue, and deal with more than a 100 currencies both at an institutional level and at a retail level, and for retail payments (which is what eBay deals in), there should be no payment processing delays for small value payments (i.e., less than a million dollars per transaction).
Hope that helps.

Back when they used PayPal, money would immediately reach PayPal from customer. I could then withdraw to my bank within minutes. Now 24 hours later, my eBay account balance is still 0.00 even though I used eBay's automated parcel booking to ship to customer and provide a tracking code.
This new system clearly isn't helping sellers.

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe time to look for an alternative marketplace. The profiteering scam is really #@£&*"£# annoying.

I've just sold an item, today 24th February, and the ebay notification says my funds will be available on 11th March!
Up until a month ago funds would appear the next day after payment. This is a really poor aspect of ebay.

Evert day of delay in passing on funds raises ebay millions of dollars. Hence the situation. A major income stream for them.

Yup.
Customer received parcel today. Confirmation of delivery through eBay tracking system. My account balance is still zero. I sold the item last weekend. Customer paid right away.

I've been using eBay since 2005. I've sold a lot and have perfect feedback. There was an issue just before Christmas where a royal mail parcel booked via eBay's didn't move or reach customer after postman collected. I ended up refunding the buyer. I filed a missing parcel complaint with royal mail. They located the parcel and delivered it to the customer.
I sold an item last Sunday, buyer paid. eBay still haven't paid me even though the tracked parcel was delivered this morning.
Corruption and greed.
