New Payment Policy

Complaint

How do you know when something has been delivered if tracking is not included? This is crazy and unfair to the seller who has to pay postage and packing up front.
The buyer must also be a diligent ebay and record the transaction as complete before the funds can be released which also is an unfair position.🤔😠

Re: New Payment Policy

Yep,  those are the new rules,  when tracking shows delivery,  payouts will be released 2 days after that delivery date.

With no tracking,  payouts will be held for 14 days, this giving time for buyers to open item not received cases if necessary,  and giving them this ' Buyer Protection' that a seller will not receive their payout until delivery is proved or 14 days lapse!

'The buyer must also be a diligent ebay and record the transaction as complete ...'

This seems to be a recurring misconception.

There is no mechanism for a buyer to record the transaction as complete or even mark an item as delivered.

What will happen is this:

'We’ve also heard your feedback and understand that shipping costs are particularly top of mind for low price items. When you’re selling a single item for £10 or less, and it’s sent untracked, funds will now be available 24 hours after you receive positive buyer feedback. This will be live by the end of February.'

Buyer Protection, Pokémon Day, VAT invoices & other launches landing this February

Re: New Payment Policy

Many buyers do not leave feedback and as a consequence the seller (good ebayers) will have to wait 2 weeks for payment! This is completely outrageous! This is not fair trading, Ebay should pay interest on holding your money. I can see someone taking this to court.

Re: New Payment Policy

I posted a parcel with Royal Mail 24 hr tracked 7 days ago .

The Royal Mail App did not update showing that the item had not  been delivered ,

I know the item has been delivered as buyer has left feedback.

I contacted eBay and have been told I have to wait 14 Days for funds to be released

I find this really unfair !

The point I’m trying to make here is I can see why they want you to use tracking but as in my case it didn’t work , the system only works if the courier is responsible and updates every part of the procedure.

I’m lucky  I’ve got a pretty honest buyer who’s left feedback , he could have said it had not been delivered and made a claim . Ebay could have asked me to return he’s payment and i  would have had to go down the path of reclaiming my money from Royal Mail which I believe is not an easy procedure .

I really do think there’s a grey area here that eBay needs to look at .

All the protection now seems to be for the buyer and very little for the seller .

Re: New Payment Policy

Go back a month, before the changes.

Say you sent an item, tracked 24.

The tracking was not updated (a RM issue, not an Ebay issue).

Unluckily, you had sent to a dishonest buyer.

If they made a claim, your money would immediately be on hold.  Three days later, with no tracking proving delivery, Ebay would refund the buyer from your money - either funds held or by dipping into your bank account.

The only difference with the same scenario today is that you would not actually have received (and potentially spent) the payment from the buyer.  Yes, your buyer could make a claim, but they could have made the same claim a month ago.  There is no difference.

Re: New Payment Policy

When you sell on Ebay (or buy) you agree to all the terms and conditions in the User Agreement, and changes and updates as they are made.

There would be no legal footing for taking Ebay to court,

If you choose to sell on the site, and nobody has to do this, you choose to accept Ebay's terms.
