Balance Money owed from ebay

Hi,

I have requested that my eBay account be closed; however, I have a balance of money owed to me, but I cannot access it until I input my NI number.  I do not wish to hand this over to eBay as i want the account closed. Can they hold on to my money indefinitely? What happens to the money I'm owed?

They will eventually pay you.  They do sometimes hold funds for up to 180 days.

Closing your account won't be instant as your recent buyers are covered by the Ebay Money Back Guarantee for up to 30 days and by their payment providers for considerably longer.

If you have sold 30 items this year, Ebay will pass your details to HMRC even if you don't give them your NI number.  Why don't you want to give them your NI number?

No they cant.

I'm in the same situation, like many.

its unlawful for them to try and extortion information from you by withholding money  on transactions that you have legally completed.

You do not have to legally supply your NI number to anyone, with the exception of those listed in the below link see:  https://www.gov.uk/national-insurance/your-national-insurance-number

You have every right to terminate your contract with them, and as long as any monies due to eBay are paid, any remaining balance should be rightfully returned to you.

eBay are in breach of contract if you have formally requested to close your account.

I suggest you formally write to them at:  eBay Commerce UK Ltd. (""ECUK"") 1 More London Place, London, SE1, 2AF, United Kingdom"

I also suggest you get legal advice if the money they are withholding is substantial.

still, your missing the point.

Yes sure if you wish to continue selling online then you would be required to provide information to continue.

In this case I like many others on here  sellers who do not wish to continue selling online, do not need to require to comply with providing information.

They cant force you to provide information if you no longer wish to be in contract. so the link you posted, if your requesting to no longer be a registered seller, why the  would you given out private information?

I had no problem giving my NI number.

Its hardly going to cause me to get scammed.

Ebay are bound by data protection act to not give it to anyone but the taxman.

as its a choice thing that fine if you decide to do so.

I don't, that's my choice.,

Being bound by data protection doesn't prevent data breaches, leaks.
