suspect fraud

I bought two light units from eBay light shop .Very poor packing caused one to be broken in to four pieces . Opened a return ,but supplier suggested a replacement well packed . I accepted . Supplier asked to close return as item in post with tracking number . Being helpful I agreed . It arrived smashed due to extremely poor packing Photographed and sent complaint to seller via eBay messages .Ignored . Return closed so no help from eBay . I now have two busted light units and one undamaged light unit !    I see some one else in the feedback profiles had the same problem . My concern is that this company is returning previously damaged items and asking to close return when in post early ,thereby avoiding sending replacements . These glass light units are fragile and require careful and comprehensive packing ,not the sparse bit of shredded cardboard .   DO NOT HELP A COMPANY BY CLOSING RETURN BEFORE RECEIVING ITEM

Re: suspect fraud

Your last sentence is partially correct. Never close a case when a seller does that they are trying to hood wink you as they know the system better than you.

The correct procedure should have been to open an item Damaged in transit the seller should have then sent you a returns label via eBay for you to return the item for a full refund, before re purchasing the item.

eBay provids an almost bullet proof money back gaurantee if an item is not as described, or is damaged in delivery. It isn't necessary to negotiate returns. All you had to do was to open a case and follow the procedure within eBay's time limit.

It's fine to try to warn other buyers but, as your own experience shows, it's hard to protect them from themselves.  Many don't even read eBay'a own guidance, let alone any warnings posted here.

How did you pay? You may still be able to get help from your payment provider.

Re: suspect fraud

I closed return too early before receiving replacement .You only get one shot as the company obviously knew .They promised to really pack the replacement with care .they didn"t !! Experience can cost Eh ?   It is not worth involving consumer association as an alternative .  I am grateful for your input . very helpful for future .     regards

Re: suspect fraud

No one mentioned  “consumer association”, you were told to contact your payment provider, unless it was paypal which like ebay only allow 30 days, most will make a chargeback up to 120 days.

Pointless letting seller get away with it if it is possible to get a refund, and with luck the seller gets charged a fee for the privilege of refunding in full.
