I bought an item this morning and paid immediately. A few hours later I received a message saying, unfortunately, the sale is cancelled as the item is damaged.
On checking my account this evening, it says "Buyer asked to cancel". I certainly did not! What's going on?
Thank you for reading.

Your seller selected that reason because this doesn't affect their selling standard, they do not receive a defect on their account.
You can if you wish contact eBay Customer Services explain you did not request the cancellation and they will place that damaging defect on their account.
Or, just leave things as it is.
The seller is saying the item is damaged, which may or may not be true, see if they relist it for a higher price, if they do, then you will have more reason to contact CS .

Contact eBay Customer Services. Their lines for an actual agent to respond opens at 8 a.m. don't contact them now, as it's an automated response.
This is the easiest and quickest way to contact eBay Customer Services, for a Call Back option.
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid
Lines open 8 a.m. - 10 p.m. on weekdays
9 a.m. - 6 p.m. on weekends.
Automated agents will be available on chat outside of the above hours.
I recommend contacting CS first thing in the morning as there's more chance of Dublin answering.
