So I've just sold an item which the buyer has paid for. The item I listed was put as collection only. The person who bought the item was supposedly disabled and wasn't able to collect the item. I later found out that the buyer doesn't live anywhere near me, so it would have to be delivered. The person is elderly, or so I think. Anyway, I'm trying to make them understand that I need the 6 digit collection code in order for me to receive your payment. They don't understand this because they think they've paid for the item, meaning it's left their bank account. What they don't understand is that Ebay put payments on hold. Of course I felt kind so I did deliver it to them, it's Christmas soon etc. But now I'm stuck, the buyer has technically paid, but without them providing me with the 6 digit collection code, I can't get paid. What do I do?

Ask the buyer to confirm they’ve collected in person through the item’s order details on their purchases page.

If nothing is done you will have to wait up to 21 days for the money to be released but you will get it in the end.

That was actually not a wise thing to do as buyer can open a not received case and get a full refund. As far as ebay are concerned it has not been received.
You should have made sure buyer had the code to give you on delivery.
It is unlikely to happen but some buyers will try it on, if they know the system, or in your case forget they have received their purchase. Now you will just have to wait for money to be released.

I have proof he did receive it. I tracked the item and the delivery man upon delivering the item took a picture with the item on his door step. Also, eBay always provides the buyer with the QR code or 6 Digit Collection code in which his case, he should've received, on his app under "order details" or even via email confirmation or via text if that's what he chose. Now he's saying that he can't find anything of the sort and has looked everywhere. He's treating this like his other usual purchases where the seller usually doesn't ask this so this may be something new to him, I'm not sure.
Also, what do you mean, I'll have to wait for the money to be released? Does that mean I'll still get paid but it'll take a while or he'll get a refund? Thanks
