Unless it was a business seller with ability to sell VAT free, you have to pay it.

Vat free

You're probably aware that there's a declaration form you can complete which should be provided to the seller.

HMRC state that the selling price on marketplaces, such as eBay and Amazon, must include VAT, and if the customer is eligible to purchase the item with VAT relief, then the customer needs to complete a form which declares eligibility which must then be returned to the seller. The seller must then refund the VAT element to the customer, reducing their next VAT return by the amount of VAT in the order which has been refunded to the customer.

Is your seller a business listing lots of items that should be exempt for disabled people?

Vat free

I bought a wheelchair 10 years ago VAT free, I had to sign & return form after delivery or I would be charged extra.

It may have changed now & you have to do as @*vyolla* advised.

Yes I just download the form but it said in guidelines the the onus was on the seller to make sure this is resolved before sale. So I fill in the form and send the seller for a vat rebate. Is this correct?

The company says that I have to apply to the tax office for a vat refund? I thought it was the company that had to reimburse me and put on their tax relief declaration?
