I'm trying to arrange Royal Mail collection of a fairly heavy item which the seller has agreed to accept as a return. Royal Mail will not print the label for me and then attach it when they come to collect - they demand I take the parcel to a post office. Seller tells me ebay's system with a QR code doesn't allow him to book a collection from me.
How do I get this back to him using the secure ebay system so that the return is tracked and recorded?

With a QR code you cannot book a collection with ROyal Mail, however the seller when getting the label sorted should have sent you a tracked 48 (if within RM's weight and size guidelines etc) label with that you either need the tracking number or the postage item ID.

It looks like you will need to take it to a post office, somehow.
Alternatively you could buy postage where they will collect it from you. The problem then is getting the seller to reimburse you.

It would have helped to mention the reason for returning it, as this determines whether the buyer or seller is responsible for this.
Assuming that it's your responsibility you can return it by whatever service you want. If collection is essential it may be better to contact a courier. All courier services today provide tracking.

Couriers.
You do not say value of item, but most couriers only cover up to £20, in the event of having to make a claim. No doubt if of high value they will increase but likely to be expensive.
How was it delivered to you? Can’t you use the same service?

You say your item is very heavy. Are you sure you can send it via Royal Mail? I think they have limits on weight and size etc.
